@HausdorffMedia @mehdirhasan The relevant Charter provision is Article 25: "The Members of the United Nations agree to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council in accordance with the present Charter."

Even after his Munk Debate embarrassment, @mehdirhasan still can’t stop lying. UNSCR 487 is not under Chapter VII and is not binding. Here is Chapter VII, so you don’t even have to “google it”. un.org/en/about-us/un…

Everyone supports migrants having OZ values. But Taylor gives no examples of a breach of OZ values that is not also a breach of existing character provisions. Visa cancellations based on breach of OZ values would become a logistic & legal nightmare. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@RizviAbul @robertbarton110 Framing these “values” in such a way as to allow a legal conclusion that they had been violated by a non-citizen would be an absolute nightmare.

@robertbarton110 These are the values themselves not examples of their application as the basis of a visa refusal/cancellation.

@NonwayneWayne @EmmettStinson It's baffling. As Gwil Croucher has shown automation has reduced lower-skill non-academic jobs and higher cost professional jobs have increased, but why does the share remain essentially unchanged?

The most stable indicator in the history of Australian social science - the non-academic share of the university workforce - maintained its non-trend in 2025.

@WhitefordPeter @cmkusher We process around 500,000 visa applications per month plus there are around 3m temporary visa holders in OZ plus 4m permanent. Unless we somehow use AI, how many staff would be needed to check social media of these people for possible breaches of OZ values?

Everything anyone tries to do is a logistical nightmare. It’s a real insight into why our public service is inefficient. Everything is difficult and hard rather than finding solutions.

Vance says the Jesus post was a "joke" from Trump. Trump says he thought he was being portrayed as a doctor, which raises troubling questions about his cognitive state. Whether it is memes or war aims, they cannot get their story straight.
Special Report@SpecialReport

WATCH: @VP JD Vance characterizes President Trump’s recent social media post about the Vatican as a "joke" and defends the administration's "unfiltered" communication style, while noting that the U.S. will maintain its own immigration policies despite criticism from the Pope.

@maleyfish18458 @ZachWLambert Hegseth is hauntingly reminiscent of the sinister preacher played by Robert Mitchum in Charles Laughton’s classic film “The Night of the Hunter”.

The latest renderings of the so-called “Arc de Trump”, the new ceremonial archway Trump wants to build across the Potomac from the Lincoln Memorial. George Washington was clear in his plan for the new capital. He didn’t want European-style monuments:

Public figures & politicians backing Ben Roberts-Smith with slogans should reflect carefully. The allegations involve execution of unarmed civilians, not split-second battlefield decisions. With proceedings still before the courts, commentary should be measured, not performative.
Michael McCormack@M_McCormackMP

The public arrest of Ben Roberts-Smith VC is deeply troubling & raises serious questions about how we treat those who served our nation in the most dangerous conditions imaginable. Spoke to @Kieran_Gilbert on @SkyNewsAust about the need for respect & due process for our Veterans.

I do find it slightly inconvenient when I travel to northern France to have to clamber all those bodies they couldn’t be bothered to bury after two world wars. I asked a local and he just gave a Gallic shrug and said “What’s the point?”
Karol Markowicz@karol

After 9/11 I had European friends confused that we would spend time, money and effort digging up the bodies at Ground Zero. What's the point, they said. But it's what Americans (and, ahem, Israelis) do. We love life, we care about our dead, and we don't leave anyone behind.

The sheer arrogance of Pete Hegseth is staggering. A top military reporter reveals Hegseth completely refused to even meet with the Army Chief of Staff to discuss personnel issues. Instead, he just fired him and leaked it to the press. Absolute amateur hour at the Pentagon.
