@RJP_RAR @LeekNabers @RyanGarciaESM Young top 5-10 prospects are almost invaluable assets. Especially shortstops. The Yankees would have to be okay with expending many, many 10’s of millions of projected on field value to increase one season WS odds by a few percentage points. It’s bad business, plain and simple.

@RJP_RAR @LeekNabers @RyanGarciaESM Find me an instance of a true top-10 blue chip prospect being traded for a pure rental at the deadline. It’s virtually never happened, and the Yankees FO aren’t going to be the first to do it.

@RyanGarciaESM Lombard + Warren is not an option if that’s the cost. No one employed in MLB would ever make that deal.

There are genuinely so many episodes of MadMen where the only engine of the plot is the magnitude of Don’s incredibly predictable and inhuman sense for deceit and immorality and lust. It’s like a fucking soap opera sometimes.

So elite baseball players having year-round access to top-level nutrition, strength and conditioning programs and baseball skill instruction is a bad thing because the point of those things is…winning games ? Truly insane take.
Thomas Nestico@TJStats

The purpose of MiLB is to develop talent and MLB’s proposal is offloading that task to colleges. Schools have an incentive to win, which intrinsically conflicts with player development. These proposed changes are counterproductive and only act as a way for owners to save money

@williegandalf And a system that has long needed adjustment is going to undergo adjustment. 96 high school players were drafted last year. MLB stats have 75% of drafted high school players from 2012-2019 didn’t advance to the major leagues. Correction in the system is needed.

@briancrice Dude are you serious. 615 players were drafted last year. Thats more than every roster spot of all 16 SEC teams combined. All P4 schools combined accounted for 43% of draftees. Mid-majors are absolutely not fully funding their entire roster.

@williegandalf No, I live in reality, where P4 schools are giving their entire roster full scholarships. If a school isn’t doing that, I would love to know, because that would be a great recruiting advantage for the other teams in their conference.

@briancrice @CoachTimOlson1 Yes top recruits are covered. But mid major senior-signs are abundant in the 13-20th rounds and the funding is absolutely not the same there.

@AJ_Lich 100% agree. Among many issues, I can’t see why boosters primarily focused on football and basketball would want to foot an ever increasing bill or schools would allocate even more scholarship pool when MLB gets all the credit and all the payout.

@HaloLuke2002 @jjcoop36 Which is fine because it’s a critical dev level. $10,000 means two things: 1. It fills with Indy ball players and teams defund the infrastructure completely, or 2. NIL is oversaturated and late-round level players are forced to play pro baseball basicly for free.

One of the other important points in the proposal: MLB states that is has no intention of cutting the number of MiLB affiliates. It says it will not be seeking any reductions from the 120 current MiLB affiliates in its PDL negotiations with MiLB owners in 2030.
JJ Cooper@jjcoop36

Major League Baseball presented a proposal to the MLBPA today that would, if adopted, result in a sweeping change to all aspects of amateur talent acquisition. Among notable points: high school players would no longer be draft eligible. baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-se…

@TortsIllustrtd CB is the pretext for cost-cutting. It’s a very open secret. They are trying to sell the competitive balance argument to the union any way possible and leverage that for a salary cap. I don’t think it will work and we’re heading for a very long lockout.

@Davelite93 @CreamRecruiter @TheBearJewUSA @MLB Minor league minimums and draft bonuses are more than what these guys will be getting from scholarships and NIL at mid-majors or even some top programs. They are expected to afford a college tuition because that’s the rule?

@WallaceCreed24 Are we seriously pretending that playing Low and High A ball is 1. Better for a player’s development than playing for a major D1 program and 2. more attractive to HS players than playing for a major D1 program?

Have we considered the fact that maybe Griffin and McGonigle would rather just play pro ball than go to college and that is why college baseball is a good product?
Baseball America@BaseballAmerica

"Konnor Griffin would have been LSU's shortstop." "Kevin McGonigle would have anchored Auburn's infield." Under MLB's latest CBA proposal, college baseball would get an infusion of the top talent that currently signs straight out of high school. More from @jjcoop36 here: buff.ly/m6YOFld
