@F1BigData Can I say something controversial? I think 2023 was quite a fun season in hindsight. Other than Max dominating, there were actually a lot of storylines. - Aston + Fernando at the top - McLaren backmarker to top team - Ferrari v Mercedes - Hamilton back on form - Midfield chaos

Exactly 3 years ago, a late red flag caused a standing start with just two laps to go What followed was chaos, absolute chaos.

@RandomF1Dude1 @utvthomass @FraudmulaSem Yes, but the gap was stable. He had qualified on pole and he wa sonly in second initially because of a bad start. The Ferrari was more than capable of winning that race. Especially with a margin of 10+ seconds.

@utvthomass @FraudmulaSem His engine blew up every other race tbf. Only France was on him that year. He would have won Spain and Baku, and if Ferrari didn’t have to turn the engines down in the second half of the season, the fight would have gone down to the final few races for sure.

@KaoEarth98 @vepfv Exactly. And even then, I don’t remember anyone touting Alex to be the most likely champion out of the three. Russell had just won F2 with Lando as runner up, ahead of Alex. Both of them were deemed more champion-worthy at the time.

@vepfv @wingbargreen That's an entirly different question... That's 'who do you think will be champion' the op asked about popularity, as in popular with people.

@vepfv @KaoEarth98 You’re objectively wrong though. I remember following all rookies in 2019 and Lando had the most followers and engagement by far in his rookie season. He also had the best debut out of the three and finished P5 in Bahrain so all attention was on him at that point.

@vepfv @Mister_U_Love In the media Lando was the most popular. Did you follow the McLaren YT vids from back then with Carlando? Lando was setting the trends regarding fan engagement and media presence. Alex had some attention due to the RBR seat but Lando was more popular in terms of media presence.

@V4RSTAPP4N @League_RNews Because the netcode of the game is horrendous and F1 don’t put any effort into the esports side of it. It’s glorified Mario Kart

@RayyLH44 Of course they are. McLaren have a Mercedes PU and they’ve been the best in car development since 2023. Ferrari are good at making a good base car (especially at the start of new regs) but can’t develop it to save their life. I think from Miami onwards it will be Merc vs McLaren.

McLaren is closer than Ferrari to catching up with Mercedes. Let that sink in

@SwervinF1 Lando and Charles are close on pure quali pace. Leclerc has better racing IQ and defense. Lando has better race pace and wet weather ability. George is close but just slightly worse on all those levels. He’s good at maximising his car though (usually).

This season has at least confirmed that Russell is closer to Norris that he is to Leclerc

@thomasmaheronf1 Energy deployment limits aren’t going to do anything if the ratio is still 50:50. The ICE is simply not strong enough on its own. This is about the best it’s going to get unless they completely develop new engines or they want to be going at F2 pace.

I'm hearing some interesting admissions off the back of Suzuka - namely, that there's a growing awareness within the FIA that the 50/50 split has been the wrong direction. It's understood that, in the short-term, energy deployment limits are being looked at while, longer-term, a change in the ICE vs. electrical split. Getting the drivers and teams in alignment is a hurdle to clear, with the teams not all agreeing with their drivers on the issues, but there is an awareness now that changes are needed. #F1 #JapaneseGP
