It’s very difficult for people to see how something can be both a social construct and “real” at the same time.

It is probably the breed, which made up more than half of all dog attack fatalities in the US in 2019 and was specifically bred to be aggressive and not display signs of aggression. In any case, dogs that maul ought to be put down and their owners criminally charged. assets.gov.ie/224373/f881b08…

As pit bulls have become more common, their representation in dog fatalities has grown, as have the per capita rates of dog fatalities and injuries.

@jenniferdoleac @johnjhorton It’s not the breed, it’s not the dog, it’s the way their humans raise them. Pit Bulls can be the sweetest dogs. I had one, my neighbor with two young children has one who is wonderful with the kids. Unfortunately there are lousy owners who teach aggression.

@jack_whitcomb_ On one hand if I’m wrong, then maybe there is hope. On the other, I’d have to congratulate the median voter…

@jack_whitcomb_ This is true, I’m just not sure that either of these exist as something concrete or understandable for the median voter or poll taker.

The rule is BUY GLOBAL. For any food product, buy stuff that is produced wherever it is most efficiently made. Failing that, buy from other regions. Failing that buy from other countries. You should not restrict yourself to food from your town or even your country. Here in British Columbia I buy salmon from wherever it is best and cheapest, whether that’s Alaska, the Atlantic, or Scandinavia. Seek out cheap food even if it is not local because its low price often reflects better production, scale, or comparative advantage. I happily buy food in a dollar store, for instance.

The rule is BUY LOCAL. For any food product, buy stuff that is produced in your town. Failing that, bu from your county. Failing that buy from your state/province. You should not even buy food from the other side of the country. Here in British Columbia I buy local salmon or salmon from Alaska. Not Atlantic Salmon, and especially not salmon from Scandinavia. Beware cheap food that is not local because there is something wrong with it for it to be that cheap. I never buy food in a dollar store, for instance.
