That’s kind of a reductive take. Not everyone has the ability to go to Japan — whether it’s because of money, age, or personal circumstances. That doesn’t make their support any less real. Overseas fans still do their best to support their oshi, even if they’re chika idols. Support is still support, no matter the distance

Also I’ve noticed lot of the alt-rock type music focused idol groups don’t pull great numbers because otaku who care about music tend to follow bands or artists instead lol

I know calling people larpers and tourists is in right now but I lowkenuinely don’t get how people ‘oshi’ chika idols they’ve never seen in person. Like the appeal is I get to see them perform in some jank livehouse from 3 feet away and then take a cheki with them afterwards.

this one isn't hard to get - chika idols have always been about the advantages of being in-person and if you haven't even talked with them online, most of the time there are performers in their niche that are more accessible/perform better/have better studio sound.

@yuushalinsky Tbf learning a wildly different language just doesn't go too well for many. My own Japanese studies have been progressing super slow, despite the time I put into it and multiple months of immersion. Worth the effort tho
