Rings of Power Season 3 is giving Galadriel another new love interest. Jamie Campbell Bower, best known as Vecna from Stranger Things, is playing a "handsome high-born knight" who is apparently her next romantic arc.
In the books she's been married to Celeborn since the First Age. They rule Lothlorien together for thousands of years. Tolkien describes them sharing what he called "the long defeat" — the slow diminishment of the Elder Days. That's not a soap opera setup. That's an epic marriage that underpins the entire mythology.
But the showrunners killed Celeborn in Season 1 so Galadriel could have a romance with Sauron. Now they're introducing another one.
Season 2 had half the viewers of Season 1. Amazon is still making it. The show premieres in 2027 after almost two years in post-production.
At what point does Amazon look at those numbers and admit this version of Tolkien isn't working?
