Caer y levantarse. Mi peor caída, el gran batacazo de mi vida, fue el día que me diagnosticaron ELA y que mis peores presagios se vieron confirmados. Doña ELA ya llevaba un par de años cortejando a cada una de mis neuronas motoras, pero hasta el martes y trece de noviembre de 2018 mantuvimos en secreto nuestra relación, más por mí que por ella, si he de ser honesto. Personalmente, me causaba pudor que pudiesen verme con alguien con tan mala reputación -por aquello tan manido del “qué dirán”- y, desde luego, me aterrorizaba presentársela a mis padres y a mis hijos. Algo me decía, en lo más profundo de mi ser, que no les iba a gustar este idilio. Para ella, en cambio, yo no era más que otra de sus miles de conquistas, un trofeo, otra muesca en la culata de su revólver y alguien a quien chuparle la sangre hasta dejarlo seco: sin esperanza, sin salud, sin alegría. Como decía, aquel martes y trece me di el HOSTIÓN del siglo sin paliativos, con mayúsculas, un costalazo de dimensiones épicas del que llegué a pensar que no me levantaría jamás. Sin embargo, lo hice y sin tardar demasiado. Aunque a regañadientes, se la acabé presentando a mis seres queridos, familiares y amigos. Ninguno aprobó nuestra unión, la que menos, mi madre. Ya se sabe cómo son de exigentes nuestras progenitoras para con nuestras parejas: “ninguna es lo suficientemente buena para sus hijos”, y esta pelandrusca, mucho menos. A pesar de ello, todos tuvieron que transigir a nuestro enlace porque, uno tras otro, fueron tomando conciencia de cuan pillado estaba por ella. Desde entonces, ha habido altibajos, como en todos los matrimonios, con la única diferencia de que en el nuestro, los “altos” van siempre a su haber, y los “bajos” acaban indefectiblemente en el mío, provocando una nueva caída tras otra. Muchas han sido las veces que he tocado la lona: que si ya no puedes hacer nada con las manos, que si pierdes la capacidad de caminar, que si necesitas estar conectado a un respirador, que si dejas de poder comer por boca…, y de todas me he acabado levantando, unas veces solo, y las más con la ayuda de los que me quieren y me rodean cual guardia pretoriana batiéndose el cobre por mí. Por si fuera poco, entre hito e hito, doña ELA también te va dando revolcones en forma de insuficiencias respiratorias y de afecciones asociadas que, provocan tanto dolor, que hacen que te plantees seriamente el divorcio de ella, aunque en nuestro caso, éste sería demasiado drástico e irreversible. Ante esa cruda y lúgubre realidad, te vuelves a levantar con la esperanza de que todo mejore, aunque eso nunca ocurre. Siempre va a peor y, lo que pierdes hoy, ya no vuelve jamás. Estos últimos días he sido víctima de uno de esos revolcones por mi contraparte en esta tóxica relación, una cornada con dos trayectorias y de pronóstico reservado. Como en cada ocasión, me estoy levantando nuevamente. Lo hago con menos fuerzas y con tan solo un hilillo de voz, pero también desterrando, por enésima vez, la idea de la separación legal, aferrándome a la única de las tres cosas que doña ELA pretendía quitarme, pero que aún conservo: la alegría. Por ella y por todos los que hacéis que la sienta, me seguiré levantando una y mil veces mientras ello dependa de mí. Gracias por estar siempre ahí. Un abrazo.
