People are starved for our IRL interactions and event organizers are defaulting to a dinner because it's the easiest to copy
Some of my recent faves including Jason's:
- companies renting out theaters to watch Project Hail Mary
- walking or silent book clubs
- I'd even include the Masters Par 3 Contest where the golfers play with their families

We are in a tech dinner bubble. Everyday I get invited to 1-3 tech dinners with f-tier founders/investors 1 of the invites even came from one of our vendors who is doing a terrible job. I had to literally tell him "Stop inviting me to dinner and do the thing I pay you to do"

sending handwritten notes is such an under used hack step out of the digital world (especially as agents start spamming our inboxes) when every marketing channel is bloated, sending a simple thank you note after an IRL sales meeting can go such a long way towards landing the

something i've noticed every time i watch someone speak on stage: i walk in thinking of them as a twitter personality or a weird news story i read about them. and i walk out thinking of them as a person (and rooting for them so much more)
that's worth more than any targeted ad campaign. i still remember what Mark Zuckerberg said at stripe sessions. and i've told like 10 people about it since. no amount of corporate messaging does that.
speaking is not always about "thought leadership." it's just your audience getting to know you.
so i guess all i'm saying is accept that speaking gig at @Techweek_
