I normally don't bother armchair quarterbacking these situations. But watching the Tesla Stans come into the comments is funny. Elon said Autopilot (FSD?) was disengaged 4s before the impact which if you watch the video looks like it was going way too fast at that point. Am I missing something?

'TERRIFYING': Dashcam video shows the moment a Tesla Cybertruck, allegedly operating in self-driving mode, nearly sent a Houston mom and her infant off a bridge before violently crashing into an overpass barrier. The woman claims she suffered multiple injuries from the incident and is now suing the automaker for $1 million.

You're missing the fact that Autopilot is more like cruise control and active lane assist than FSD. So, this person was basically inattentive to what the car was doing when it wasn't in a fully autonomous mode. Kinda like the story they'd tell you in driver's ed about the guy that put the van in cruise control and went back to take a nap.

Multiple things can be true. 1. It looks fast but we don’t know exactly how fast. The Cybertruck cameras are higher up and given the difference of perspective, it can look faster in my experience. 2. My first reaction (and for many others) to too fast (4 whole seconds) is slam on the brake. We didn’t see any nose dive here. 3. And the usual, still L2

Yes, 4 seconds is a long time, if FSD had remained engaged it would have slowed and taken the turn. For reference a Cybertruck can brake from 50 mph to 0 in 2.7 seconds. So slowing to handle the curve would not be an issue. Tesla has the telemetry which will show what controls were pressed and when.

4 seconds is basically the length of the entire clip. That’s an eternity when at interstate speeds. Had she not taken over, the truck could have slowed and made the curve. It didn’t appear she was even attempting to slow though. Probably a case of wrong pedal when she got flustered. If defending purely false allegations that give a company we support bad publicity for no reason makes me a “Tesla Stan” so be it, but I think it’s totally justified to be irritated at these constant media attacks on Tesla with wrong information.

@ChadMoran Autopilot is not FSD, a HUGE difference. Autopilot is much like any other basic lane keeping and speed matching software. Unless it was FSD, then yes it could be going too fast, they were not supposed to be letting it drive thru this intersection like you can with FSD.

Idk man, 4 seconds before the crash is basically the start of the video if not slightly before the video started. I think this was 100% human error. And I think we should be frustrated at Fox for pushing the story with clear intentions to have people blaming Tesla without having all the details.
