On ร gbo or traditional medicines generally, I have this to say. The problem with tradomedicine these days is the lack of regulatory bodies. Just anybody can wake up and start selling ร gbo. Without adequate knowledge of dosage, even the most therapeutic drugs can have deleterious effects. That being said, our people have great herbal knowledge and casting them out blankly will do us more bad than good. First, majority of the medicines we use today were developed from the folkloric use of herbs. Every pharmacology student knows this. 1. During my MSc program, I was tasked with working on a potential opener of the mitochondrial membrane permeability transition pore. Any herb/chemical that can serve this purpose will be a potential anticancer agent. With my knowledge about inflammation and the little I know about Yorรนbรก tradomedicines, I met with an elder in my community who recommended a plant to me for that purpose. This was what I used for my master's research. Not only did this plant open the pore, it was gentle on liver and kidney. 2. A professor of biochemistry, University of รŒbร dร n once shared an experience he had with us openly during lectures. I won't mention his name but all of my mates who underwent MSc Biochemistry program between 2018 and 2021 know who I'm talking about. He gave birth to a baby in UCH. The baby's bilirubin level was really high. For three days, normal treatment were administered but nothing was changing. His child was given the best of treatments because many of the doctors passed through him. On the third day, he called home and they sent him small herbal concoction. He snuck it into the ward and administered little to the child. After four hours or so, he asked them to take blood samples again and your guess is as good as mine. Bilirubin level came down. He quickly thanked the doctors, not wanting them to know what actually happened. The second day, he administered a little, and so he did for some days till the baby became normal. 3. I have personal experience of a time when orthodox medicine failed me and traditional medicine came to the rescue. I wouldn't be alive today if we had stayed with just orthodox medicine on that fateful day. I plan to tell the story on my biography. So, I'm not spilling it now. Sadly, a lot of ร gbo sellers out there are destroying people's lives. That's just the sad truth. You just have to be close to many of them and you'll see from the preparatory phase that they only care about the money. Many of them don't actually have the knowledge of herbs. They're like quack herbal medicine practitioners. They will even contaminate the connection with different bacteria that can cause other problems. But this does not mean ร gbo is bad. We just have to work on having a regulatory body that will ensure high standard amongst practitioners. I know of professors who are sending herbs to Caucasians in Europe. Prof. Samuel Oluwalana is one. Prof. Maurice Iwu (former INEC Chairman) is another man I respect so much when it comes to herbal knowledge and they're making forex from it. If it is prepared by people with knowledge, ร gbo will work where orthodox medicine fails.
