You can’t demand a functioning system while a lot of people still enable breakdowns through complicity, poor civic pressure, and selective outrage. Leadership is accountable, yes, but a society that only reacts after tragedy instead of preventing it also shares part of the burden

At this point, what exactly is the job of the government if citizens can no longer travel, sleep, or even send their children to school without fear of being kidnapped? Every week in Nigeria, another kidnapping story. Another family destroyed. Another community living in fear. And Oyo, a state many people once considered relatively peaceful, is becoming part of the headlines. Mr President, Nigerians are tired of speeches and condolences. We are tired of “security meetings” that change nothing. People are paying taxes yet still paying ransom to survive in their own country. A nation where criminals operate freely while innocent citizens live like prey is a nation dangerously failing its people. This insecurity is no longer “news” — it is becoming a normal lifestyle, and that should scare every single one of us. The government must stop acting like this is under control because clearly, it is not.

さっきまで、ただの節約の記録に見えていた。

「子供 風邪 薬代」の横に、小さく書いてあった。
「一晩中、看病した。元気になってよかった。」
「運動会 お弁当 材料費」の横にも。
「今年も一番に応援した。あの子の笑顔が宝物。」
全部のページに、母の気持ちが隠れていた。
家計簿は、ただの数字の羅列じゃなかった。
母にとって、私を育てた40年の、日記だった。
最後の一行に、こうあった。
「お金は残してあげられなかったけど。」
「あなたとの毎日が、お母さんの一番の財産でした。」
40年分の家計簿は、母が私に遺した、世界で一番分厚いラブレターだった。

そこだけ数字じゃなかった。
私あてのメッセージが書いてあった。
それを読んで、私はその場で泣き崩れた。
