@Asst_to_the_RM Not saying we should, but why is weapons qual never discussed when talking about metrics to use? I mean, lethality and all. Either way, this new retention initiative is not ideal. A certain Corps wants to tie it to how much TA you can receive 🤦🏻‍♂️

Had a conversation w/ my BDE CSM about this months ago. What is the criteria we are using to ensure quality people are retained rather than just meeting numbers? I believe more oversight metrics can be implemented aside from PT score. PT score isn’t the whole soldier concept.

@TheBuddyCSM Agree, also think they should release each individual’s board score. It give more context on the OML and let folks know how close or far they are away from the top.

I understand that the current senior NCO promotion system utilizing OML numbers gives more flexibility to the Army. However, what we now miss out on is the psychological effect of a SSG seeing his/her name on the SFC list and instantly knowing that the Army sees their potential to lead at the next level. Same for Master Sergeant. I still remember seeing those lists and thinking to myself “Hellyea.” That type of motivation and validation can go a long way. The only ones that get that type of satisfaction is the top 10ish % of those on the OML. Everyone else is left in a grey area wondering if they are going to get promoted THIS year. Just some thoughts.

@Asst_to_the_RM Well, just finished a EUCOM rotation and folks who were due, were given a ACFT/AFT every month. To include NCOQ/SoQ competitions, tests prior to PME, Best Redleg comp. So yeah, unless we are preparing to assault an objective or shape the deep fight, we will still take AFTs.

The video and the reg. Just because it says “not required” does not means it’s not authorized. CDRs assume that risk. Not NCOs or Soldiers. I can’t believe she put this out there. But as she says in the video “do what you’re rank can handle”
