@Gunaiser So what? There are plenty of ways you can glaze Kojima without saying he personally coded the visual effects in MGS1. It sounds like you knew better, so why do it? His games do indeed look better than DLSS5 crap, no need make stuff up alongside this point.

Death Stranding 2 has some of the most detailed character models out there. No DLSS and runs amazing on the base PS5.

@MD_Chaos4 @JoeLongBalls Physics and game engines also set a floor of sorts for how bad you can expect some parts of a game to be. I’ve played awful modern 3D games, but problems like bad hitboxes and falling through floors are uncommon enough to be notable failures instead of the norm for older stuff

@MD_Chaos4 @JoeLongBalls It’s probably less overall standards and more “enough good games exist to crib from that you’re less likely to make a game with systems that don’t make sense at all”. Actual balancing, performance, ‘game feel’ etc. still vary wildly from good games to bad.

No, there are functionality thresholds that, if not cleared, make something genuinely unpleasant to play or straight up unplayable. Thing is standards have raised so much in such a short time that it's too time consuming to make a genuine piece of shit and get to shelves
bONGO 💫@wariocolosseum

objectively bad games don’t exist lol pretty much everything revolves around personal taste. some ppl just don’t like smth bc it doesn’t suit their own taste and that’s perfectly fine !!

@JoeLongBalls With how bad performance of most games is at launch (potentially compounded by invasive DRM), I think “functionally sound” might be pushing it, but I agree with the thrust of your post.

The modern bad game is a high budget functionality sound product with a stupid story and tacked on rpg mechanics not a ugly as hell platformer where you control the camera with the face buttons

@JoeLongBalls On the other hand, you might find a hammer that feels really good, so who can say if it’s ‘wasted’ time

@Dunnesparce @YOUPOSTBAD I see a decent amount of love for the sequel, but this game is awesome in its own right. Some older games that blend action-y gameplay with rebuilding a town, if you’re interested, are Soul Blazer and Actraiser on the SNES.

i'm putting together a working theory that every gamer has a really 6/10 mid game that they played when they were 14 and it's stuck with them forever

@MachMonarch @YOUPOSTBAD I remember watching my dad play this and getting scared at some of the violence, lol. Some of the environments are freakin huge for a PS2 game.

@OurslsTheFury2 @YOUPOSTBAD I functionally softlocked myself in this the first time through, by speccing fully into stealth and saving right before a boss. That old guy would just run up and beat my ass and my combat skills sucked too much to deal with him lmao

@MarshSMT Sometimes it’s real, like the system just not having enough RAM to fully realize the scope of level designs without chopping it into loading zones or whatever, but most of the time if does feel like an emotional excuse for not wanting to engage with older games on their own terms

you ever think like "held back by the tech of its time" is a nothing statement for games its like "they made it that way because thats the way they decided to make it". its always used in reference to stuff that was considered an unbeatable classic like ten years ago too

@jansetdoesart Having a trademark coat is a hallmark of journalist/detective characters. The stuff underneath is a basic white button-up and jeans. Obviously the real reason is asset reuse and recognizability, but even aside from that many people own several copies of those garments.

Guys, did I miss something? Why was Alyssa wearing the exact same clothes when she met Grace and on the day she got killed?

@Bruce_Selina @Legendary8chaos @jansetdoesart If they do a remake of Outbreak and use it as an opportunity to flesh out Alyssa more and tie in a little better to the adoption and tragic murder, the Grace mega fans who love their nervous smol bean will eat it up (not complaining here).

@veryrare_ns A good demonstration of how games can use their interactivity to strengthen their storytelling, and especially in a horror context. You the player have to lock in just as Grace does, and indeed this is a pivotal moment in her arc.

@spookyviera Is it the result only for the first playthrough? Can we know that? Because for a speedrun choosing to listen to Leon is more efficient. In my first I didn't because there was so much stress put on her being Hope that I chose to believe(Also Leon would die anyway so I tried)

It's been a week, and what a week! The ending stats are so interesting to me! You can see that the majority of players chose to listen to Leon... My choice was based on Pandora and Elpis. Grace and 'hope' are constantly mentioned, but my choice was (1/2) #REBHfun #RE9

@spookyviera For me, I thought destroying it was probably the ‘bad’ ending, so I wanted to see that first and then go back to finish the ‘good’ ending. My reasoning was that the password was obviously ’Hope’ and that’s way too cheesy to be the bad ending, lol
