Be honest with me, Americans 🇺🇸 Do you actually own a gun? In Japan, I have never seen a real one. Not once. Not at a friend's house. Not in a drawer. Never. But online, every American just goes "oh, mine's in the nightstand" like it's a phone charger 🔌 So now I'm genuinely curious: What's YOUR gun? The very first one you ever got? Is this normal everywhere in the US? Or just some states?

@japan_nobunaga First one was the only 22 rifle my Grandmother didn't throw away, and it belonged to my Grandfather when he was a kid. First one I bought myself was a Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm and that's what I carry most every day still.

@CBHeresy I got into an argument with my communist HS history teacher when she claimed the a-bomb use on Japan was a "racist act". She didn't know Germany had a program which was the catalyst for the Manhattan Project nor did she know that the first bomb was ready only after VE day.

It's actually because most of them are stupid. When I was a young guy and went into teaching, I had this naive idea that I'd finally find a home among people who were skeptics and critical thinkers, like me. Instead, I just found myself awash in a sea of overeducated and highly credentialed morons.

Back in 2015, I interviewed at Republic Airways because I had my ATP written and they were hiring without the checkride. During the interview with the 20-something captain and HR lady, they asked about a stressful emergency. I told them the story of my flight lead dragging us through a thunderstorm and we were both struck by lightning. He was incapacitated briefly and I helped talk him down from the wing, earning a NAM. The young captain was awestruck. The HR lady? Launched into a commentary on how I could’ve handled it better. She was not a pilot. She was quite surprised when she offered me the job a few days later and I respectfully declined.
