My first book is out next week, and the UMass Boston Labor Resource Center is hosting a virtual book launch. Join us for a conversation with three brilliant organizers who are fighting for living wages, rights, and respect for paras/ESPs in Massachusetts today!

@msdunn_says One of my favorite summative articles that explains CRP's key tenets, history, and examples across disciplines is @TyroneCHoward & Rodriguez-Minkoff's “Culturally Relevant Pedagogy 20 Years Later: Progress or Pontificating? What Have We Learned, and Where Do We Go?,” in @TCRecord

I am super excited that my latest publication in *Multicultural Perspectives* is OUT! I write about how multicultural education has always been a part of the long struggle for justice, with Harlem Prep as an example. Read here (or contact me for access): tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

All of this speaks to how we need to shift our higher education advocacy to being about better supporting both public institutions — community colleges + state universities — & contingent faculty who primarily teach at them if we want to move the needle for students of color.

Of course, not all first generation students are students of color (or low-income students for that matter), but a very large majority are. (For how to support first-gen students, I wrote an essay for @dteiuci: dtei.uci.edu/2023/04/04/wha…) I am proud to teach at a place like UCI!

Yes! While we should continue to fight for affirmative action, if we really care about equity & supporting students of color, then we must invest — financially but also in attention & advocacy — in all the other institutions (and educators at them) who primarily serve them.
Renzhe Yu@renzheyu

"Even with affirmative action in place, most students of color did not go to elite colleges, and last week’s ruling does nothing to change that." Short but important piece by Richard Arum and @mitchellatedf @nytimes nytimes.com/interactive/20…
