Indian Embassy in Kuwait: “21 Indian crew members of MT Settebello are returning home safely. Prior to their departure, Ambassador interacted with the crew members, conveyed his best wishes, and appreciated their resilience during a difficult period. The Embassy remains committed to the welfare and safety of Indian nationals. MT Settebello, Palau-flagged vessel was about 30 Nautical Miles off the coast of Sohar, Oman, at the time of attack. Oman Maritime Security Centre was intimated forthwith, based on which relevant Omani authorities were alerted for Search and Rescue (SAR). While 21 Indian crew members have since been successfully rescued, 3 seafarers lost their lives in the tragic incident at sea.”

I wasn’t sure how to start writing the piece and get a huge load off my chest, as it were. Maybe it’s better that I quote the poor Indian mariners at sea, part of the merchant fleet caught in the middle of a bruising war between the United States and Iran, stranded on inhospitable waters, getting bombarded by American missiles, dying without medical attention – the air heavy with humidity, the stench of rotting flesh and the moral decay of the American empire.
“We are in Iran right now..Only Indian ships are being attacked. Why? Why are you bringing us into your fight? We aren’t military or anything like that…”
One can feel the helplessness and anguish of the seafarers, out to earn their bread far from home, collateral damage in a war that has nothing to do with India or Indians. In these contested waters where a double naval blockade is in place, ‘dark’ tankers ferrying sanctioned crude are mostly headed for China, the largest importer of Iranian oil. Not one China-linked ship or Chinese crew members have come under attack so far in this conflict zone. Obviously, Washington knows better.
Indians are easy targets. It gets easier when even the government, whose citizens have been the victims of a war crime, reflexively chooses sangfroid over reading the riot act.

Personal insults to deflect attention away from a serious policy issue! What is @TVMohandasPai afraid to face? Could it be that the decades of theatric celebrity as some kind of tech guru are coming apart publicly.
From my side, I mean no personal harm towards him and have cherished many years of solid friendship in the past. I wish him well.
But friendship should not come in the way of addressing SERIOUS policy issues that impact tens of millions of youth today.
Lets discuss the policies, not personalities:
First, please differentiate between tech producers and consumers. India is largely a technology consumer nation importing tech from USA, China and others as the producers.
Producers have the power advantage. They are always 1-2 generations of technology ahead of the consumers. They decide the terms of the exchange, including outright bans, exorbitant pricing, colonization, and large-scale exploitation.
India's role on the producer side is marginal: supplying cheap labor, and low value-added derivative products mostly for domestic consumption.
In all tech revolutions, the gap between producers and consumers keeps increasing rapidly. Today, India is further behind than it was even 3-5 years ago, in the resources and capabilities required to bridge the huge gaps.
Colonizers' strategy is to corner the slaves into self-limiting frameworks. They asserted: "stick to your outsourcing, and don't get into serious R&D except as our employees". This is where Pai, other industrialists, as well as govt babus became empowered to serve as agents of the colonizers, just like the zamindars appointed by the East India Company.
India faces serious dependencies in its hard power. That requires a powerful military-industrial complex. This is becoming a NATIONAL SECURITY threat.

(Note: I have been denied participation in recent AI and other forums in India because the gatekeepers want to curate the discourse. Chief Minister @DKShivakumar should stop taking PM Modi Ji’s name as a crutch of support to further his Bidadi Township project.
The Bidadi Township project has turned out to be Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s vanity project. He has neither consulted farmers, nor taken them into confidence or has followed due process for land acquisition. Farmers deserve clarity, consultation and transparency before any land acquisition takes place.
Yesterday, I spoke with Shri Nikhil Kumarswamy and assured him of my full support.
