Instructional coaching seems to be a thing at the moment. I have two questions.
1. On what basis is advice being offered to those being coached? Is it informed by evidence?
2. Do coaches use an explicit teaching model — I do, we do, you do? For example, if I am coaching you, is the first step for you observe me teach my class or maybe your class?

I love my job as an instructional coach. This describes it perfectly.

Quickly, though, instructional coaches partner with teachers to identify a powerful student-focussed goal. Then, together, they identify an effective teaching strategy to use to hit the goal. Usually the first attempt doesn't work, so many adaptations are made until the goal is hit. The goal functions as a standard for excellent implementation.
