Virginia’s legislative session finished just a few days ago. And lawmakers voted to rejoin the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, expand virtual power plants, and grow solar.

@clicab_edu released a huge report today outlining 16 pro-climate, politically pragmatic housing policies. If you’re a policymaker or climate leader wondering where to go next – you should check it out.

There’s still a ways to go, but these early signs are hopeful.

That’s why we supported @PeterHubbardGA and Alicia Johnson, who unseated two long-time incumbents on the Public Service Commission. These were the first statewide wins in nearly 20 years for candidates running on energy affordability and consumer protection.

Georgia Power has long benefited from decisions made by the Public Service Commission. The PSC has approved billions of dollars in utility investments, costs that are ultimately paid by customers through sharply rising residential electricity rates.

Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard unseated two long-time incumbents to win their races for Georgia PSC in a race that has been making waves. By focusing on affordability and consumer protections, they were able to be the first pro-climate candidates to win in almost 20 years

.@SolomonforJC ran and won on stopping harmful infrastructure projects that would have worsened pollution, while championing sustainable development and better public transit. His mayoral campaign reflected a clear vision for a Jersey City that works for everyone.

Today on Volts: as you may have heard, there were some elections last week. How did they go for climate world? To find out, I did my annual check-in with @c_r_spears of @climatecabinet. I don't want to spoil anything, but folks ... they went well. Really well.

This is huge!! We supported the first slate of Luzerne County in 2023, and they are clearly building on their success. The previous county government failed to fund any clean air or clean water priorities - even toxic remediation. Congrats 🎉
