@CommArchWick @inkdropart Whitefield is on my agenda next time I'm home. Kids had great fun figuring out our relations in the graves.

@JimRyanWW Lovely thread Jim! Those lovely crosses probably fine by a local blacksmith. The cross is early medieval and was modified at a later date. Just checked Nms website and it says it was possibly unfinished too back in the day. Dermot is buried in a lovely spot.

My main reason for visiting is to say a prayer and think of Dermot, who broke all our hearts when he left us too soon in 95. I like to think of him kind, quiet, friendly, trips to the shop at lunchtime for crisps and football after. I think of him often. Almost 30 years gone.💔

Rathdangan is the kind of place that 'áit iargúlta' was made for. Cranerin Graveyard is further away again towards the Glen of Imaal. I have a special reason for visiting here, but I'll leave that to the end. It is set overlooking the community below with its holy well under yew.

Kilcommon Church is an early medieval ecclesiastical site located in County Wicklow. originally known as Cill Chomáin or the church of St Comáin. This illustration depicting the saint’s feast on 25th December was produced as part of Historical graveyards project in Co. Wicklow

Wouldn't it be great to twin schools with monuments? Matching experts with the next generations to be caretakers of our heritage. Any class I've ever brought to St. Canice's Graveyard in Finglas has been blown away by it. I'm hoping the same for Old Kilpipe in the future.
