Someone give me a honest answer to why Americans are so friendly Everyone holds open the door for you, stops for you and traffic, asks about your day and makes jokes with you. The rest of the world calls you rude though, why?

Our parents and teachers taught that too. Now teachers teach activism. And activism is causing racism There are just some that have never been taught anything before school except hate and violence and pair that with activism and you have a really unstable, non functioning or productive generation.

Honestly, racism is one of those things many Japanese people struggle to understand. If we see a white person, we think, "Oh, they're white." If we see a black person, we think, "Oh, they're black." If there were blue people, we'd probably think, "Oh, they're blue." And that's about as far as it goes. If someone is nice, we think they're nice. If someone is an asshole, we think they're an asshole. If we like them, we like them. If we don't, we don't. We grow up being told not to cause trouble, not to fight, and to get along with the people around us. Maybe that's why judging someone by their race feels so foreign to a lot of Japanese people. We're usually too busy judging people by whether they're good people or not.

When my mum died she left everything equally to me and my two brothers. A third each. Clean, simple, no room for argument. The solicitor said she had been very clear about it. I nodded and signed my name and drove home. Three years before that I had left my job as a practice manager earning £38,000 a year to move back into the house I grew up in and care for her full time. I gave up my flat, my routine, my income, and most of my thirties. My oldest brother lived forty minutes away and visited on alternate Sundays when it suited him. My younger brother lived in Edinburgh and came at Christmas and once in the summer. They both sent flowers on her birthday. They both cried beautifully at the funeral. Nobody suggested the split should reflect any of that. Not the solicitor. Not my brothers. Not a single person who knew the full picture said out loud what the numbers actually meant. And I did not suggest it either, because she was my mother and I did not do it for the money and saying so felt like reducing three years of her life to a transaction.
