Because Texas was in response to New York as well as necessary because of a court decision, which we’ve discussed ad nauseam. Texas also never had an independent commission. And finally, Texas is an R+14 state that drew a couple more red seats.
Virginia is following California and drawing a 10-1 map that wouldn’t even be suitable for Maryland. It’s a D+5.7 state that just had a bipartisan moderate Republican governor who respected the will of voters. Voters went +33ish for an “independent commission” in 2020. Virginia’s New Democrat fakemajority is trying to gerrymander the state with a deceptively worded off-cycle referendum being held in April, so they’re not even getting the Real Voice of all voters. And they broke multiple laws to get that ballot measure, to boot.

This is one of the many reasons YIMBism struggles in LA.
The disdain housing advocates have for single family neighborhoods, which people understandably cherish and want to preserve.
People feel their homes and communities are under constant threat of being torn down to build high rise apartments.
Focusing on ways to increase housing without making people feel their communities are under threat could go a long way to getting things done.

1) I think people in this online echo chamber majorly overestimate how much normal people/Michiganders know and care about Hasan Piker.
2) I’ve had major issues with some things he’s said, but IMO he’s not in the same realm as Nick Fuentes.
3) This pivot from McMorrow seems like a strategic bet that Stevens voters are more gettable than El-Sayed voters, and maybe that more undecideds are deciding between McMorrow and Stevens. And that she was never going to outflank Abdul on being progressive or on Israel-Gaza — essentially conceding the left lane and trying to chart a Goldilocks path to the nomination.
4) Whether intentional or not, I think this will make it more likely that AIPAC will turn their fire on El-Sayed alone, rather than both McMorrow and El-Sayed (which seemed to be their plan before).
