I think a lot of us are realizing how pervasively and deeply fucked up things have become in all our separate bubbles, and a lot of us are trying to take small actions for the better. I hope over the next decade those small actions will add up.

People are mostly talking about the (also very good) remarks about AI but I think the larger main issue is how much humanity has been stripped from everything that touches the tech world, including games and the Internet at large. AI is one symptom of a larger tragedy.

@Sinnoware This specific challenge is why the ring exists in Gloomwood. At first we talked about just letting the player deduce their visibility from the environment and view model illumination but the chaotic nature of baked lighting made that really unintuitive and frustrating

@Sinnoware I think he has a point in general, but wrt Thief the baked lighting was already doing light bounces and indirect illumination, which is why you rely on the light gem primarily vs just diegetic shadow boundaries. In theory a path traced Thief wouldn't be any better or worse.

This answers a question I've been asking. A Thief game with path tracing and raytraced audio probably won't ever happen.

My hot take is that Dark Souls 2 rules because it is complete and utter bullshit and that's hilarious. It gets so beautifully close to Dark Souls' ultimate form of Grimdark I Wanna Be the Guy
