@the_clay_bird Most consoles like Xbox and ps5 have a closed ecosystem. With the Steam machine, you don’t have that. You aren’t only tied to steams storefront, you can use others. You have more options, you can use it as a pc or just a console, you can repair/replace parts yourself
English

@DaStashY Explain the “freedom of a PC” to me. What is that
English

My desktop was $1600
That was with:
5060ti 16gb
Ryzen 7 8600
32GB ram
1tb storage.
That’s JUST the desktop. No mouse, keyboard or anything else.
People acting like this is bad for people who will plug it into their tv, ya know, the tv that’s 60hz, is ridiculous. (1/3)

@THECaptGeech Would be a lot and probably even worse to hold out. Best option was to release at the best price they could without taking a loss. I wish it was the original $750 they planned but ai is to blame for the change in price
English

@DaStashY The fact that it barely holds up to the performance of a 6 year old console is the biggest issue for me. I understand the price increases on parts is to blame. But at that point if I were creating this I would have just said abandon ship lol at least until the market changes
English

@FHoeltl But it’s also convenience. People don’t wanna have to go through the trouble setting up or building a Pc, especially if it’s Linux build like the SM is. And without all the bloat of something like windows, it’ll run games much smoother
English

@DaStashY Thats true but i could also buy a normal pc for 900€ and plug that into my tv. The problem really is just the price
English

@AIDSinSpace1488 My specs outclass a series x. The Steam machine specs are comparable to the series X and outclass the series S
English

@pedr_____0___m @txjdjeknxbo Or maybe you don’t know actual PC prices? I made a 3080ti build a while back in 2019 for the same price
English

@DaStashY @txjdjeknxbo you know you're lying when you say you built this before prices went up, cause you got scammed otherwise
English

@pedr_____0___m @txjdjeknxbo Mainly chose the 5060 due to better VRAM with 16gb, I do 3D work so more RAM is preferred
English

@txjdjeknxbo @DaStashY Yeah 1600 is way overpriced even today, that gets you a 5070 at least and a better cpu cause i dont know why he chose an 8600
English

@DaStashY Even casual-tier TVs are shipping with true 120hz refresh rates now.
English

@Igloczek -Which would save money in the long run. I can also repair it by myself, I am not tied down to one specific ecosystem, I can use it as a Pc without having to jailbreak my PS5, plus if you wanted a PS5 with a disc drive or a pro you’d be paying even more in the long run
English

@Igloczek Or you just aren’t listening? The prices you’d pay to now that you’ve spent on online alone are more than your PS5. Plus if you were to get a PS5 today you’d be paying more for that and online. Or I could just spend $1k and not have to pay $130 extra a year for online-
English

@Igloczek -repair it yourself, you don’t have to use steam on it, you can use it as a Pc if you wish and aren’t locked to whatever the console companies make you use. You have more freedom, it’s your machine.
English

@Igloczek Let’s say you bought a base PS5 on launch. $500 (plus tax) + $130 a year for online. Already you’ve spent more than the Steam Machine. Not to include full priced games. To repair your PS5 you have to send it off to Sony, you have to use their ecosystem, while SM offers ways to-
English

@DaStashY yeah it was $300 more than a steam machine, and its double the performance.... so the steam machine is overpriced,
English

@v7636h I’d say MS has more sales than PS, the problem is if you need to replace a part on consoles, you either have to take it to a store to get it done, or ship it out to the company for them to fix it. The main thing about the SM is you can do it yourself easier than a console
English

@DaStashY You can repair consoles yourself, I don’t usually spend $1100+ on things I’m hoping to upgrade in the very near future, paying for online is pretty negligible when the console is 1/2 the price, Sony and MS have massive sales. I would argue most people put performance > everything
English

@alissa_tr4 @GoodTalkHQ_YT Valve has stated that the Steam Machine would work very similar, having SM verified games
English

@DaStashY @GoodTalkHQ_YT That's because most people who play on deck stick to deck verified games. If you decide to branch out from that, you start running into problems. Granted, this is kind of on yourself for branching out but still
English

@GoodTalkHQ_YT To be fair, have you ever had someone complain about any of that on the steam deck? I’ve never had that issue on it, nor as anyone I know that owns one. If this is supposed to be like a steam deck in how it works with steamOS, it’ll work just fine
English

@DaStashY until they try to play anything that requires anti-cheat, have steamos freeze up on them, a game requires a proton layer and they have never messed with proton or plugins or anything. yeah its going to be plug and play just like a console lol...come on man.
English

@v7636h You can repair it yourself, possibly even upgrade it yourself, you can use it like a PC if you so wish, you don’t have to pay for online, games come out much cheaper with how many sales Steam has. It’s not just about power, also versatility and options
English

@lobotomite22 I think it’s a lot more about versatility. You can repair it yourself, it can double as a PC if you’d like it to use it for other things, there’s a lot more that it can do over the Xbox or PS5. I think it’s a great alternative for someone who also doesn’t wanna pay for online
English

@DaStashY If I’m just plugging it into my tv I’d rather just buy an Xbox X that’s significantly cheaper, comes with a controller, and runs better. There’s def a market for the steam machine but it’s very niche.
