As someone who very much does want a village and indeed has it (I currently have 4 neighborhood kids under 6 at my house joining us for dinner. Part of a baby swapping system I started in 2021), after having pretty painstakingly built it over years, I want to make two points...
Cartoons Hate Her!@CartoonsHateHer

Today I write about how many parents who bemoan the loss of a "village" don't actually want one, because it would require them to interact with other people.

What is this man talking about? Without the protected bike lanes on Bloor, I'd have no safe way to make it home from work in time to collect my kid from daycare. Cycling saves me 20 minutes faster vs. the TTC - and a separated lane means I can use my bike year round.

New paper from the METRE lab! Interested in modeling our sense of rhythm? Confused by apparently conflicting pictures of "networks of oscillators" and "predictive processing"? Quick thread below! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

A recent 5yr Belgian study shows the BIG impact of increasing vehicle weight on road deaths & injuries. When a person on a bike or walking is hit by a pick-up, the risk of serious injury increases by 90% compared to a car. Risk of death goes up by 200%. vias.be/fr/newsroom/de…

Check out this great article about “Ride to Thrive,” a program that teaches school kids about safe cycling. Students at Sir Arthur Currie PS recently completed the program & more have begun riding their bikes to school! #TVDSB cbc.ca/news/canada/lo…

STUDY: “Pretty remarkable.” A new study found that e-bike rebates led to a surge in ownership, with 60% of purchasers being entirely new to cycling. Those who took part also reduced their weekly vehicle travel by 48km on average, a decrease of 30-40%. bc.ctvnews.ca/pretty-remarka…

This is such a great opportunity. Jon's doing amazing work and is a fantastic supervisor. And, we truly have an incredible team here at @McMasterPNB and @musicandthemind.

Seriously, watch this short video. To see how to effectively make the case for protected bike-lanes, and particularly how they’re good for business. Or just as a great example of how to speak to any city council. Watch it, then share it. HT @PVDStreets

@tpcanoe I share the frustration. Enforcement could help, but infrastructure changes are the sustainable way to improve safety and wellbeing: reduce and slow cars and get them further from people, and ⬆️active and public transportation rates. Our car-centrism leads to road violence.

Check that: there’s another one on page 4, with one more death. Why do we tolerate this! Most deaths are because someone was not following the clearly established rules of the road. This should be basic & it needs both direct & indirect enforcement.

I am on page 3 of @LFPress and have read about three car crashes, which killed 4 ppl. #RoadViolence is real. We lose too many ppl to unsafe roads. There are easy fixes around policing tinted windows, loud vehicles (which are about power), speeding, & aggressive driving. #ldnont
