“To Wr-alda’s spirit only shall you bend the knee in gratitude—thricefold—for what you have received, for what you do receive, and for the hope of aid in time of need.” (OLB, Ch. 5) daughtersoffrya.org

@angloid0 Presumably because historians are divided as to who to count in that role.

It's so sad that most English people don't even know who the first king of England is

@jurgen_nauditt Just so you know, the British flag is not a Union Jack, it's the Union flag. The Union Jack is the triangular flag ships fly.

@DaughtersofFrya @CavanUlster @P_Soisialach Why is that relevant? What is clear is the texts of both the Acts of Union - you can accept them, or not: but the facts remain. Here’s the 1801 Act, for clarity

@DaughtersofFrya @CavanUlster @P_Soisialach They clearly use the name of the state, in lines 2/3 - Great Britain. Compare that to the very definite language used in the Act of Union 1801, where the two kingdoms are specifically named: Great Britain, and Ireland.

@RedDave14 @CavanUlster @P_Soisialach We simply needed proof that it was used, and we have it. In any case, the Act is ambiguous as to the actual name of the state. They were less worried about such things back then.

@P_Soisialach So the little Northern Ireland bit is what’s keeping the United bit in the name going?

Article I of the 1707 Act of Union with Scotland: "THAT the two Kingdoms of England and Scotland shall upon the first Day of May which shall be in the Year one thousand seven hundred and seven, and for ever after, be united into one Kingdom by the Name of Great Britain; and that the Ensigns Armorial of the said united Kingdom be such as her Majesty shall appoint, and the Crosses of St. George and St. Andrew be conjoined, in such Manner as her Majesty shall think fit, and used in all Flags, Banners, Standards and Ensigns, both at Sea and Land."

@P_Soisialach The term United Kingdom was informally used during the 18th century, even in the 1707 Act of Union itself between England and Scotland.

A genuine pet hate of mine is alt history mappers who call Great Britain “United Kingdom” despite the -United- part of the name only existing because of Ireland.

@EuroBriefing During the Middle Ages, from the fall of Rome to the Renaissance, Europe was something of a backwater. Its civilisation came quite close to extinction in the early part of that period.

By far the hardest thing for liberal Europeans to accept is the rise of a non-eurocentric world. Europeans can deal with the far-right, or Donald Trump's rants. But they cannot deal with being ignored. For over 3000 years, Europe was at the centre of the political, cultural and economic universe. It still thinks it is. eurointelligence.com

Islam should not receive any special privileges in Britain - whether that's slaughter exemptions, an 'Islamophobia tsar', blasphemy laws, parallel legal systems or whatever else. Certainly no special rules for defining Islamophobia - all religions should be open to mock, criticise and insult. That includes Islam. Quite frankly, we have already done more than enough to accommodate Islam and that needs to be reversed. Restore Britain will do exactly that. Halal slaughter banned, cousin marriage outlawed, sharia courts made illegal. The burqa and the niqab will not be welcomed on our streets. We will not change our way of life or tolerate intolerable practices. That is a choice. We will just not do it. There is finally a political party that holds the courage to do what needs to be done. Restore Britain.

Though not one of the six annual Frisian festivals, we'll be holding a vigil to mark the spring equinox on the night of 21/22 March at Moseley Bog, B'ham. In ancient times, observation of the spring equinox was essential for calendar regulation. Website - daughtersoffrya.org
