An Irish election is when a right-wing candidate wins the most votes in a constituency and loses anyway because they didn't get enough "third or fourth preferences" i.e loser votes as if that should matter for who takes one single seat.

Hard Right voters should register a protest against the unfair PRSTV voting system in future by refusing to put down any preferences after the first preference. That’ll teach the centrists.

Catholics went from owning 60% of Irish land in 1641 to 14% by 1700. What was left was so fragmented the potato was the only viable crop for subsistence. Dave said there was no food. Not true

During the Irish potato famine, Ireland was exporting potatoes to England while Irish people starved. It wasn't a lack of food. It was policy. There was loads of food in Ireland during the Gorta Mór (The Great Hunger is what we call it) and it was all exported out of Ireland by the British.

@zorororonoa999 @RedDave14 That’s fair point actually. I feel like regardless of a United Ireland or not I’d be massively in favour of changing the current system because I just think back to the insane 2024 EU election count taking almost a week with the massive ballot papers too.

@MartinMurphy72 @JakeFitzsimons It’s just logical, I think - the New State will need to be catered for - there may be changes to its structure and administration that we haven’t even thought about, the 1937 Constitution wasn’t built for that! Just like the 1922 Constitution needed to be replaced.

I’m back to work today after a bit of time off. Interesting release here from DOD re a Government to Government agreement with the Italian MOD. That clearly is an addition to the agreement with the French Government. Plenty of interesting Italian tech and kit. @thejournal_ie
