UDF has sent a representation to the Government of Kerala regarding risk to patient safety due to excessive and illegal long duty hours of PG medical students in various districts. It includes Thiruvananthapura, Ernakulam and Alappuzha, apart from other districts of Kerala. Dr. Lakshya Mittal, UDF Chairperson, has requested implementation of the 1992 duty rules, which is 12 hours at a stretch and a maximum of 48 hours per week. Non-compliance with the abovementioned rules has created problems not only for medical students but also for patient safety. It is requested to constitute an “Enquiry team on duty hours of PG Students” to ensure whether rules are followed or not. In case of any irregularities, action may be taken under Sections 146, 337, 340, 344, etc., of BNS if applicable. NIMHANS says that HoD / Dean / Director are the liable persons to be prosecuted under BNS 146 for illegal duty hours of junior residents & legal duty hours is 48hrs/week. To save our doctors from deaths & quitting toxic HoDs must be sent to Jail Almost all PG students have 24-36 hours illegal duty in NIMHANS MD psychiatry, DM in child & adolescent psychiatry & M.Ch neuro surgery without duty roster maintenance Does NIMHANS maintain a transparent duty roster system? Does NIMHANS record actual duty hours of PG & DM students? Unlike other medical colleges that has 36 hours illegal duties in first years, residents in NIMHANS complaint 36 hours duty till end of final year. Very unfortunate to see NIMHANS deals with mental health by spoiling mental & physical health of it's own residents

@CMOMaharashtra Govt of Maharashtra claims for implementation of 1992 rules i.e. 48 hours weekly duty of PG Medical students. But reports says some medical colleges are forging the duty data and still 36 hours long duty is continued. Media and civil society shall fact check.

Yes, it's brave to stay in residency against all odds. But it is also brave to leave when u can't do it.. Not one person have supported me to leave, everyone is like - it get's easy.. So going against everyone is pretty tough

@Aarti_sudhi Govt norms stipulates 48 hours a week with a compulsory week off. Abusers have been violating it for the past 30 years & killing 30 PGs every year & solution starts with the students/ parents open their mouth to speak . But they are tight lipped. They expect magic to happen
