Interim Police Chief, Robin Henderson, said children are okay. Still have questions. Henderson said everything is preliminary and the info may change.

Posting this again to fix typo: Morning stabbing turned officer-involved shooting. The police chief said the suspect (shot) & 2 of 3 stabbed are in the hospital. One died. What makes me the maddest—3 kids were in the home at the time. More on @KVUE’s morning newscast at 8.

@farfadale I have some info for you. Bluebonnet told me it was heavy loads primarily caused by electric heaters in homes. It led to sagging lines, which came into contact with others and caused faults... leading to outages. They had to work in sections, energizing one at a time.

@EricaProffer the same area over several hours, 18 linemen to repair the problem and no answers. This whole area of people would like to know what happened and if it's truly fixed so it won't happen again.

@EricaProffer pretty sure I am not the only one in SW Bastrop county who would like an explanation for loss of power. It occurred multiple times, over the night of the 16th into the morning hours of the 17th. No, I don't want to be on the news.

@joshdr83 I feel this pain. Got dozens of files back from a PIR once and it was sent as small individual files within a folder within individually zipped folders. That was fun. 🙃

Don’t mind me, just downloading 104,040 individual files from SPP’s website because apparently operating reserves data come in individual 5-min files…

@nahval74 @KVUE @ERCOT_ISO I'll preface by saying I'm not an expert. However, from everything I'm seeing and hearing, it's not going to be as bad as 2021.

@EricaProffer @KVUE @ERCOT_ISO Erica, I've been noticing some ice starting to come down and that worries me. Is this going to be enough to stop the windmills from spinning just like 2021?

@gspeng @UTAustin Not sure: pipes didn't burst during the 5-day long winter storm in February 2021, so I doubt they burst this time (yet--fingers crossed). What I *think* happened is some supply pipes in our crawlspace (insulated, but still exposed to air temps) have ice in them, blocking flow.

No water at my house b/c of the freeze (not sure if it's just my house or a wider issue). The semester @UTAustin starts tomorrow so I came to my office to work. It's 61F here. It's a choice btw: UT office: water+power (but no heat) or Home office: heat+power (but no water)

@nahval74 @KVUE @ERCOT_ISO Not sure which plant. From the EIA map, it's mostly solar and wind out there. The ERCOT unplanned outage report is days behind. Do you know? The generation loss is not to the 2021 level. 2021-loss >50,000MW. Right now-<17,000MW. ercot.com/gridmktinfo/da…

This is a good reason to keep an eye on the electricity supply and demand forecast. Jan. 10 projections vs Jan 12. projections. As the weather forecast changes, so does this. Keep track here: ercot.com/gridmktinfo/da… Get alerts: ercot.com/txans @KVUE

@nahval74 @KVUE Population, electric vehicles, data mining, freezing gas well heads, nighttime (no solar), etc. Basically a little bit of everything adds up, from what I hear.

@EricaProffer @KVUE Erica, you & I know that they will likely blame population pressure for this. My God, we've got half of California living in our state now. I might add that Texas, by Monday will give us a hint of what an EMP attack on America would look like. Please answer soon!

@nahval74 @KVUE I’m only now seeing this. Personally, I have no idea. What I do know is things have been done to make the grid stronger than in 2021. Also, this storm isn’t looking as bad as 2021. So, I keep an eye on the supply/demand and take what precautions I can.

@EricaProffer @KVUE Erica, In your opinion, is it looking increasingly likely that Texas will experience grid failure by Tuesday morning at 9:00 am? That energy expert you talked to seemed optimistic at first, but now he's got doubts. Please answer soon!

It's gonna be cold in Texas, y'all. Qs on my mind: 1) will the natgas system freeze up (like in 2021, 2022, 2023,...) 2) will it be wet (probably not) 3) will it be windy (probably) 4) will peak electric demand in ERCOT >> summer peak b/c of heating + data centers (maybe!)

"The natural gas market operates on a combination of non-transparent over-the-counter (OTC) trades and exchange-based standardized contracts in a handful of locations. And the gas markets that are transparent don’t do weekends." #txlege #energytwitter energyathaas.wordpress.com/2021/03/01/to-…

SPP's hosting this call to prep for the impending winter storm. Utilities need to reserve natural gas fuels ahead of time, but evidently the gas markets usually are closed up over the weekend. Compounding the problem is Monday is MLK Day, another day off for gas.
