Canada shipped $7 billion worth of oil and gas to Texas in 2024 alone. This essential partnership gets Canadian energy to global markets, creates paycheques on both sides of the border, and helps fuel our friends. I met with President Todd Staples and Director Matt Patterson of the @TXOGA to grow that relationship, so we can build strength at home for unbreakable leverage abroad.

The American energy dominance that starts in Texas gives the United States options that keep our nation strong, our military ready and our allies supplied, according to a statement released this morning by the Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA). “Energy security is national security. At a time when geopolitical tensions, including military action involving Iran, disrupt global energy supply routes, the United States and Texas provide stability,” said TXOGA President Todd Staples. “Americans can rest assured that the United States, led by Texas, has the capacity to respond because of unmatched production, robust pipelines and world-class refining and export infrastructure.” Read more here: txoga.org/the-texas-effe…

In the Texas oil and natural gas industry, the spotlight may shine on drilling rigs and production numbers, but the foundation of every well begins long before the first pipe hits the ground. It begins with land. That reality is now front and center at Texas Christian University (TCU), where a new seminar at the TCU Neely School of Business is turning Hollywood intrigue into real-world industry preparation. Inspired by Landman, the popular West Texas drama created by Taylor Sheridan, the course “Land Management and Land Administration” is giving students a grounded look at one of the most essential, and often misunderstood, professions in the energy business. Great news is always worth sharing! Texas upstream employment stayed steady through 2025 while producers delivered strong output in a tough market. American oil and gas continues to show up, supporting jobs and the systems people count on every day.
Texas Oil & Gas Association@TXOGA

Texas upstream oil and gas employment remained essentially flat in 2025, even as producers continued to deliver strong output amid challenging market conditions, according to data released by the Texas Workforce Commission. Through November 2025, upstream employment totaled 201,200 jobs. While employment declined by 3,500 jobs in November compared with October, year-to-date employment was little changed, with a net gain of 300 direct upstream jobs. Employment was also modestly higher than a year earlier, rising by 100 jobs, or 0.1 percent. “Reaching new production highs in multiple categories with employment essentially remaining steady is absolutely remarkable. Navigating these volatile circumstances is a vivid reminder: growth is not guaranteed,” said Todd Staples, president of the Texas Oil & Gas Association. “This resilience demonstrated by increased energy output in 2025 depends on policies that support infrastructure development and market flexibility so the oil and natural gas industry can adapt to uncertainty and continue delivering the affordable, reliable energy that powers our modern way of life.” Read the full release: txoga.org/nov-25-jobs/

Despite the chill of Winter Storm Fern, Texans stayed warm and our energy infrastructure showed serious grit. How the grid won: ✅ Natural gas supply remained resilient. Texas natural gas production declined by 7% to 10% during the peak of Winter Storm Fern (Jan. 23–26). Statewide production of dry natural gas remained near 28 bcf/d, roughly equivalent to peak winter consumption levels. ✅ Electricity demand rose sharply but was met. ERCOT average hourly electricity load increased by more than 40%, rising from roughly 50 GW to ≥70 GW between January 22 and the coldest periods of the storm. ✅ Storage played a key balancing role. Natural gas storage withdrawals increased materially, with gross withdrawals peaking near 12.8 bcf/d, helping supplement flowing supply and meet elevated winter demand. ✅ Dispatchable generation anchored grid reliability. From January 22–26, thermal and other dispatchable resources supplied up to ~92% of ERCOT generation, including roughly 70% from natural gas, supporting reliability through periods of peak load and cold weather stress. The proof points reflect a reliable and resilient system. Despite extreme cold and rapidly rising demand, the combination of strong natural gas production, storage flexibility, and dispatchable generation enabled ERCOT to maintain reliability without widespread outages. #txenergy #txlege #WinterStormFern @GregAbbott_TX @DanPatrick @Burrows4TX

TXOGA’s latest Electricity Power Pulse shows that in Q4 2025 ERCOT sustained strong, broad-based load growth, higher baseline wholesale prices, and continued reliance on dispatchable natural gas generation to maintain reliability. Key takeaways: Load growth remains strong and structural. Total ERCOT electricity demand rose 6.1% year-over-year, continuing a trend of roughly 5% annual growth since 2020. Importantly, average load has increased faster than peak demand, showing sustained energy use rather than isolated peak-hour stress. Natural gas continues to anchor system reliability. Natural gas supplied roughly 40% of ERCOT generation in Q4 2025 and provided at least half of total generation in more than 90% of hours, underscoring the continued importance of dispatchable resources as wind and solar expand. Renewables continued to grow rapidly—but have not replaced dispatchable supply. Wind and solar output continued to rise, with solar generation up more than 30% year over year, yet dispatchable resources remained essential across most hours to balance the system. Wholesale prices shifted higher during normal operations. Average hub LMPs increased 28% y/y, with gains evident across the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles—indicating higher baseline prices driven by tighter system conditions, not extreme scarcity events. Price volatility moved away from extremes. While day-to-day price dispersion widened, extreme scarcity pricing declined, with no prices above $500/MWh in Q4 2025—pointing to a tighter but more stable market overall. Overall, the Q4 2025 results reinforce that ERCOT’s primary challenge is not peak scarcity, but operating a more complex system under sustained load growth—one that increasingly depends on reliable, dispatchable natural gas generation.
