@Phantom_TheGame I've used a combo of a container script on stairs / the ground that returns what surface type it is plus raycast downward from the player every x distance (or on footstep animation) for generating footstep sfx. could probably use a similar system to detect "is stairs" vs not

Holy shit, stairs/edges are my worst nightmare. The Unity controller is terrible when it comes to slopes, because it prevents you from walking UP slopes beyond a certain angle, but it doesn't do anything if you are already on it (say you jump and land on a really steep mountain side). So you have to program some kind of "slide off the slope" feature. The problem then is, it might think that a step on stairs is a really steep slope, so you slide off it. And so you have to do something to prevent that. And then something else breaks. And so on. Why am I a game dev, why am I doing this to myself? What is the meaning of it all? Why did my dad leave me?

It was just that over and over, they'd grab a gator with a tool, shoot it in the face, and drag the body into the boat. No drama or tension. Just doing this gross repetitive task over and over. They only spoke to say stuff like "Grab that gator." "We got it." Surreal

One time I saw a reality show about gator hunters, obviously the network had thought they'd find some really eccentric characters and probably replicate duck dynasty. But it turns out all these guys did was go out in a rowboat and shoot a gator in the face with a shotgun

@TigoODonnell Yeah, trying to square it as a vaugly Christian morality play does the game a huge disservice. It's not trying to tell you what's right or wrong, it's asking you how you feel while inhabiting someone who did something that they know was wrong, which is far more interesting

Often Silent Hill 2 is interpreted as a tale of good and evil, right and wrong, and morality, when I personally think the game is focused on the emotional. It’s not asking whether James killing Mary was right, it’s asking how you emotionally resonate and feel about it.
