Multiplication comes before addition in order of operations. PEMDAS
(8 - 5) = (3)
2 + 5(3)
5x3= 15
2+15= 17
Grab your old TI-83 and you will see how wrong you are.

(8 - 5) = (3)
2 + 5 = 7
So then: 7*3= 21
17 is wrong-crazy how people aren’t understanding this

There are two 5 in the equation, so you can simplify them because they’re on different sides of the parenthesis.
And 2+8 is 10.
