‼️TENSIONS ARE RUNNING SKY-HIGH BETWEEN THE MAC’S AND THE CRUSADER MOTORCYCLE CLUBS IN PRETORIA‼️ My wife saw it unfold firsthand today at one of our businesses. The Crusaders showed up uninvited to a charity event hosted by the Megaforce motorcycle club, where the Mac's had been explicitly welcomed. You don't “F#CK” with either of these motorcycle clubs. They don’t talk much ‼️ The feud between the MAC’S (also known as 1313 MAC’s Familia) and Crusaders motorcycle clubs in Pretoria, South Africa, is a violent conflict that has been escalating for nearly a year, primarily rooted in accusations of member poaching and violations of an informal alliance called the Tri-Alliance (which also includes the Hell’s Angels). According to MAC’S leadership, the Crusaders—led by national president Mark Groenewald, who allegedly bought the club for millions—began actively recruiting MAC’S members, including those who had been expelled for serious misconduct like failing to repay loans, extortion, and providing false information to police about illegal weapons and drugs. This broke alliance rules that prohibit accepting “bad standing” members without a mandatory cooling-off period. In response, MAC’S withdrew from the Tri-Alliance, viewing it as irreparably damaged. The tension boiled over into multiple physical confrontations, often in biker-friendly bars and pubs in northern Pretoria areas like Montana and Pretoria North. Key incidents include: • A March 25, 2025, standoff at Hennie’s sports bar, where around 100 riders clashed after a former MAC’S member (Pierre “Whitey” Terblanche) entered the venue, leading to calls for reinforcements, including MMA fighters from a local gym. Both sides accused the other of being armed, though no shots were fired. • A late-May 2025 brawl at the Red Door pub in Pretoria North, despite a prior agreement for Crusaders to stay away; this caused a sharp drop in business for the venue, prompting them to hire extra security. What has turned the feud into what some describe as a “racial war” is the use of racial slurs during these clashes, particularly the k-word directed at MAC’S members (many of whom are Black) by Crusaders riders at the March incident, in front of police who took no action. MAC’S president Mannetjie Geyser, a founding member since 1980, highlighted this as a degrading attack on his club’s dignity. In response, MAC’S filed a complaint with South Africa’s Equality Court in June 2025 over the hate speech and bias-motivated allegations, with their lawyer stating it’s about holding parties accountable for public racial abuse. As of August 2025, at least one pub (Cock and Bull) has permanently banned members from both clubs following another incident, but no major updates or resolutions have been reported since the court filing. Both clubs deny broader aggression—Crusaders calls MAC’S “bullies,” while MAC’S emphasizes family-oriented values—but the core rift remains over loyalty, territory, and now racial lines in a historically tense biker subculture.
