Please note, I don’t do personalised research. I do this as a hobby in my own time, without any external support. I have previously provided information to people when asked and have been happy to help, and most people are appreciative. However, there have been to many occasions where I have taken the time to provide detailed replies and not even received a thank you back. Everything I come across is already in the public domain, it just takes the time and effort to look for it. If you like what I’m trying to do, or are genuinely interested, buy the books, leave a review, share the various posts, spread the word to people, watch and comment on the YouTube videos, anything is appreciated to try to take this to a wider audience, just don’t take the piss. amazon.co.uk/stores/Adam-Sq…

@ForgottenClubs @CorwenFC @FAWales Jack Evans didn't win the FA Cup with Cardiff. He played in the 1925 team who lost to Sheffield United in the final but wasn't playing in 1927.

Welsh Football History A-Z based off things in my books. Y - Y Bala The first reference to a club in #Bala was in September 1877 when they were drawn against @CorwenFC in the inaugural @FAWales Welsh Cup competition. Bala were knocked out after a second replay. They returned to the competition in 1879-80 and lost against Corwen again in the first round. The last reference to this club was around 1884. In around 1898 a club called Bala Press emerged. They played in the Welsh Amateur Cup and reached the fourth round on five occasions. Their games were played at Tryweryn Park. Bala Press are notable as Jack Evans played for them early in his career. Evans was the first player @CardiffCityFC paid a fee for. He played over 300 games for Cardiff and won the FA Cup. He also played for @Cymru. Evans played for Bala Press along with his brothers Dei and Dick. Dick briefly played for @Wrexham_AFC. #footballhistory #wales #welshfootball #football #hanes #peldroed #footballheritage #wrexham #southwales #glamorgan #CardiffCity #cardiff #cardiffcity #gwynedd #Bala #balagwynedd @BalaTownFC @BalaJuniorsFC

Welsh Football History A-Z based off things in my books. Z - Zoedone Scraping the barrel here, but you try finding a Z in pre-War Welsh Football. Zoedone were the factory team of a drinks manufacturer. The football team first appeared in 1880. They only played in friendly matches against Rhostyllen, Coedpoeth, Hope, Wrexham Crown, and Chester Rovers. They are last mentioned in November 1883. #footballhistory #wales #welshfootball #football #footballheritage #peldroed #hanes #wrexham That concludes my A-Z of Welsh Football based on things from my books, which are available here - amazon.co.uk/stores/Adam-Sq…

Welsh Football History A-Z based of things in my books. X - eXcelsior Scraping the barrel here, but you try finding an X in pre War Welsh football history. Newtown Excelsior was formed in 1879 as a merger between Newtown FC, Newtown White Stars FC, and other clubs in the area. White Stars survived the merger and retained their own identity, leaving Excelsior made up of Newtown FC, some White Stars, and players from other clubs. They played in the Welsh Cup in the 1879-80 season where they were knocked out by Ruthin in the third round. There is no mention of the club after 1879-80 and they were absorbed back into Newtown White Stars for the 1880-81 season. White Stars were runners up in the 1881 Welsh Cup final then also folded. Excelsior played in black shirts with a red hoop, white shorts, and black socks. #wales #welshfootball #football #hanes #peldroed #footballhistory #footballheritage #powys #newtownpowyswales #newtownpowys @NewtownAFC @PowysCC @CountyTimes @WhitestarsJFC @CentralWalesFA

Welsh Football History A-Z based off things in my books. W - Westminster Rovers Westminster Rovere were formed around 1889 as the works team of the Westminster Colliery. In their short history they played in two @FAWales Welsh Cup finals. The 1892 Welsh Cup was played at The Racecourse and Westminster lost 2-1 against @CHIRKAAAFC. They reached the final again in 1894 and lost 2-1 against Chirk at Wynnstay Park. They are last mentioned around 1897. They played their games at Stansty Park, now the home of @LexFootballClub. Their colours are given as white in some sources, and other give them as blue, white, and red. #football #footballheritage #footballhistory #peldroed #wales #hanes #welshfootball #wrexham @wrexham @LeaderLiveSport @FootyMuseumWal @wrexhammuseums @NWalesLiveSport

Welsh Football History A-Z based off things in my books. U - Unionists Barry Unionist Athletic was formed in August 1898 as a direct replacement for Barry District AFC, when the Unionist Athletic Club decided to organise a team under Association rules. They entered the South Wales League, @FAWales Welsh Cup and South Wales Senior Cup. Their colours were given as chocolate and blue. The club won the @SouthWalesFA Senior Cup in their first season when they beat @RhayaderTownFC in the final. They won it again in 1901 when they beat @LlandrindodAFC They won the South Wales League in 1902. The club was then disbanded and reformed as Barry United Athletic. @nanwandmabli @FAWales No I know. There’s no pictures of the club, and unlikely they had a badge. The badge is just a mock up using information known about the club and combining it with a recognised landmark connected to the area’s industrial history.

@ForgottenClubs @FAWales The John Summer Clock Tower didn't open until 1907 so unlikely that the Clock Tower would have been used on the club badge (TBF I suspect it was unlikely that the club had a specific badge but I may be wrong) great piece of history BTW

Welsh Football History A-Z based off things in my books. Q - Queensferry Ironopolis Queensferry Ironopolis were formed around 1895 and affiliated to the @FAWales as a new club. It’s possible they may have been a name change from Queensferry FC, who formed in 1893, when Mancott & Pentre United, who formed in 1889, changed their name. They played on a pitch by the Hawarden Castle Hotel, which they also used as their headquarters. In their first season they won the Denbighshire and Flintshire League. They also entered the Welsh Junior Cup. Queensferry reached the final where they beat Shrewsbury Athletic 3-0 at Wrexham. Among the Ironopolis lineup was future @Cymru internationals John Taylor and Fred Kelly. The club joined the Wirral League in 1896-97, but appear to have folded at the end of the season. The club colours are unknown but a later Queensferry club played in blue and white, and their predecessors Mancott & Pentre played in dark and light blue. #football #peldroed #wales #footballheritage #footballhistory #hanes #welshfootball #flintshire #queensferry #deeside @DeesideDotCom @FlintshireChron @FlintshireCC

Welsh Football History A-Z based off things in my books. T - Treharris Treharris were formed in 1886 and were founding members of the South Wales League. They won the South Wales League in 1891, 1905, and 1906. They joined the @_WesternLeague_ in 1906, a competition they won in 1910. Treharris then moved to the @SouthernLeague1 where they played for four years. Treharris also won the @SouthWalesFA Senior Cup in 1904, 1906, 1907, and 1911. They played at Rodericks Field in Quakers Yard until 1906 when they moved to the Athletic Ground. In August 1913 it was reported the Athletic Ground was going to be built on. There were plans to extend Edward Street through the Athletic Ground connecting a road to John Street, and building 50 houses. In June 1914 the club announced they weren’t going to apply for re-election to the Southern League, and by September 1914 they had disbanded as they didn’t have a ground. Soon all football was stopped due to War, and the plans to build on the ground never happened. The club reformed as Treharris Athletic in 1919. #southwales #football #footballhistory #footballheritage #welshfootball #hanes #wales #peldroed #glamorgan #merthyr #merthyrtydfil #treharris @TreharrisAthFC @southwalesargus @merthyrexpress Forgotten Clubs of South & Mid Wales coming July 2026

Welsh Football History A-Z based off things in my books. S - Swansea United Swansea United were formed on 19 August 1908 when East Side changed their name. They applied to join the South Wales League where they finished eighth and bottom. They then joined the Swansea & District League for three seasons. They also played in the @FAWales Welsh Cup once and the @SouthWalesFA Senior Cup. They played at St Thomas Athletic Ground and their colours were given as amber and black. Although @SwansOfficial are credited as being the first professional club in Swansea, Swansea United had professional players in 1908 and 1909. The club disappeared in 1912, around the same time Swansea Town (now City) were formed. #hanes #footballheritage #footballhistory #wales #welshfootball #peldroed #football #southwales #swansea #SwanseaCity #swanseacity #Abertawe @swansea @swanstrust @SwanseaCouncil @SwanseaUni Forgotten Clubs of South & Mid Wales coming in July 2026.
