I am not worried about Kenya in 2022. I am extremely worried for Kenya Post 2022 because a Ruto presidency post 2022 looks like it's inevitable and Ruto isn't someone you'd want to give a country to lead.

I sat in the committee room yesterday reading emails between ORYX ENERGY LTD and the Ministry of Energy officials, including the Cabinet Secretary, and I was shocked to discover that they were all in agreement to import fuel at USD 253.94 per MT—while the same government they serve imports fuel at USD 84.00 per MT. If OMCs are not taking advantage in cohorts with ministry officials, who is fooling whom? This is an artificial get‑rich‑quick scam orchestrated by a fuel cabal! We are not stupid—only for the deal to be cancelled at the last minute when a shipment of substandard fuel imported by ONE PETROLEUM LIMITED arrived and was offloaded, costing Kenyans the equivalent of USD 198,855 per MT—still USD 114 more per MT than the government’s own G‑to‑G rate.

Look at the price difference between Somalia and Kenya. Yet we import fuel from the same place,same route and same coastline. Someone in kenya wants to make 10 billion off from us and tell us prices have risen globally.

Ethiopia is landlocked.
It imports its oil mostly from the Gulf (Saudia & UAE), and the rest from India and Singapore.
Its oil lands in Djibouti and gets connected to a 550km Pipeline to Addis Ababa.
After all this, it lands petrol at the pump at KES 110-120 amid the current geopolitical crisis.
Kenya gets oil from the same Gulf, ships it directly to its own ports, and then a pipeline that the government mostly controls.
It then retails petrol at KES 206.
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!

EPRA has raised fuel prices for the April 15 – May 14 cycle, with Super Petrol up KES 28.69 to KES 206.97 and Diesel up KES 40.30 to KES 206.84, while Kerosene remains unchanged at KES 152.78. The adjustment reflects a sharp surge in landed costs, with Petrol up 41.53% and Diesel up 68.72%, partially cushioned by a VAT cut to 13% and ~KES 6.2B support from the Petroleum Development Levy.
