I went to pride for the first time a few years ago thinking it'd be an experience...well it was. Thought maybe some stalls selling clothing, celebrations, bright colours and things would just get crazier later on. I realized pride is more about loud extroverts and extremely s*xual people having their day than it was about a spectrum of queer people in general. Pride is for one personality type to enjoy being that type of person and if you're not, you're in alien territory. Pride was always depicted in media as a fun celebration of all of queerness but its far more about kink, s*x and booze than anything else. I realized that day that queerness meant next to nothing when it came to connecting or relating with other people. I had nothing in common with anything going on there, because it was more about extroverts partying and a lot of people not respecting others boundaries than anything else. Just because its a party like event doesn't mean you can't display basic social standards like not loudly joking about extremely sexual stuff and thrusting in a thong behind a family waiting in line for food right in front of you. Only thing I truly realized was how little being queer actually went into making you who you are and that personality, hobbies and general interests are far more important to who you are and the connections you make. I'd have more fun playing Warhammer with a group of straight cis people than I would in a room of extroverted party type queer people.

A neighbor of mine posted on a local social media page that his mailbox was hit by a van full of what were clearly cleaning ladies. The impact shattered the back window of the van, damaging his mailbox and leaving glass inside the box and all over his sidewalk, yard and driveway. They drove away without leaving a note, and the only way my neighbor knew what had happened was because of his ring cam. He posted a photo asking if anyone knew who they were so he could seek restitution. Almost every comment on his post was from someone shaming *him* for trying to find the people who damaged his property, saying they are likely undocumented immigrants who were poor and scared, calling him privileged and saying he needs to get over his busted mailbox and glass-filled driveway and “think of others.” In case y’all were wondering about the absolute insanity we’re dealing with in deep blue northern Virginia.

i was 19 and casually seeing a girl. then one day! found a lump in one of my testicles while i was taking a shower. went to the doctor and it turned out that it was cancer and that they would have to remove it. oh, and i would have to have at least 2 rounds of the most intensive chemo out there if i wanted to not die. there was also the very strong chance that i would be sterile for the rest of my life. realizing that this was something that i might not survive i ended things and dropped off the face of the planet for the girl i was seeing, as i didn't want to end up being the dead boyfriend. she found out what was going on though and basically insisted that she be with me through it all. she came to every single 8-10 hour chemo session and helped me through recovery. fast forward 6 years and we are happily married with 2 kids and our 3rd on the way.

I went to a steakhouse in Miami, paid the bill, and they automatically added a 20% tip. When the waiter brought the check, he said: “That tip goes to the whole establishment—if you want to leave something for me, it’s extra.” I didn’t add anything else—20% is already too much. He gave me a dirty look, like I was robbing him. This tipping culture is out of control.
