Two professor friends at Georgetown make a case for allowing students to work towards mastery on writing assignments, w/ open ended invitation for R&R. Wondering if that will work at my not terribly selective school. Can see it working and really not working too.

Possible topics: -practitioner/researcher partnerships -crossover between policing and other disciplines (public health, social work, education, etc.) -crime control strategies, their effects, and unintended consequences -emerging issues/upcoming trends - gaps in our knowledge

@AdamPlantinga A lot are quite intense with how long they are. I’ve been combing through these manuals that are publicly available (a lot are) for the largest 100 municipal PDs lately.

Most large police agencies have a Rules & Regulations manual that is thicker than an old phone book. My department's is nearly 700 pages long. Pretty sure I'm violating at least a minor reg right now even though I'm off-duty at home in unassuming sweatpants.

@Dan_S_Lawrence We know so little about FTOs. Very interested to see what you find.

Kicking off our randomized controlled trial of field training officers in the first of three police departments. FTOs are so critical to officer training and setting the stage for their careers, but often overlooked in research. Excited for this project.
