Trump's Iran "plan" has essentially deteriorated into adopting the Israeli strategy of mowing the lawn. An agreement appears to have been reached with Israel that the US and Israel will continue to bomb Iran for another 2-3 weeks, and after that, they will declare the war over without an agreement on the Straits of Hormuz. Note that Lindsey Graham has called for the war to end in 2-3 weeks and that Netanyahu has stated that oran no longer constitutes an existential threat. The first time in his life that Netanyahu had uttered such a sentence. During this period, as much senseless destruction as possible will be pursued in order to "bomb Iran back to the Stone Age." But this achieves nothing but putting the US into a state of eternal war with Iran. Trump himself has stated that the next President will have to bomb Iran as well. The textbook definition of a forever war. But the events of the past 48h - with several US planes shot down inside Iran - show that even this nonsensical plan is unlikely to work as it assumes a steady and controllable level of escalation.

The way Israelis keep talking as if Iran just randomly decided to victimize them with missiles -- due to anti-Semitism -- is almost impressive in its sociopathic delusion. Israelis really believe they have the divine right to bomb and exterminate anyone with no retaliation.

The 4 main differences between the foreign USA and the foreign China from a European perspective 1. China is not laying claim to any territory held by a EU member state 2. I would not be surprised to see another wave of targeted killings of high-level #Iran regime officials amid their negotiating intransigence. They've been tested by the Trump administration. So far they've failed that test. So that means consequences.

Look - if you lure people into negotiations and then murder them (not just once, but a few times) you don’t get to complain about ‘negotiating intransigence.’ It’s grotesque even to speak this way. People backed into a corner will act desperately and that is predictable.

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.

I think the United States military leaving Europe would be the best thing to happen to the continent in decades. It would be challenging, and unserious politicians would be found out much more quickly. But that’s a good thing. It would be our Independence Day.
