📌 Women, Peace and Security Brainstorming Session 📍 3-4 December 2025 | Bishoftu, Ethiopia. We have officially kicked off the two-day WPS brainstorming session, bringing together the Peace and Security Division's Programme Offices and Units, and the IGAD Gender Unit, to strengthen gender mainstreaming across our peace and security work. The morning began with welcome remarks from @xubbifarah, head of @IGADgender and an opening statement from Commander @AbebeMuluneh, @IGADPeace Director. The Chair of the IGAD Parliamentary Forum on Agrifood Systems met with the Directors of the Agriculture & Environment Division and the IGAD Foreign Service Institute to strengthen regional cooperation on food security, nutrition, and resilience. Parliamentarians emphasized their role in shaping laws, adopting nutrition-sensitive budgets, and monitoring regional commitments — highlighting the need for stronger coordination with IGAD. The meeting proposed:

✔️ Capacity-building sessions
✔️ A collaboration protocol with IGAD The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to working with IGAD toward inclusive and effective governance of food security and nutrition in the region.

Strengthening Regional Leadership: IGAD Concludes Training with Launch of Parliamentarians Working Group on Agrifood Systems Building on two days of capacity building, IGAD advanced to the institutional phase of the training by initiating the establishment of a Regional Parliamentarians Working Group on Agrifood Systems. Parliamentarians and Ambassadors engaged in detailed discussions on the draft Terms of Reference, culminating in their adoption. The group also developed a practical action plan to enhance legislative advocacy, oversight, and alignment of national policies with the CAADP framework and the Kampala Declaration. IGAD Member States Deepen Commitment to Agricultural Transformation and Regional Food Security Day 2 featured in-depth presentations by Member States on their performance in the 4th CAADP Biennial Review, assessing progress towards agricultural targets and highlighting areas for improvement. Discussions also addressed the need to strengthen institutional coordination, enhance data systems, and align national investments with regional frameworks. From July 28–31, the IGAD Agriculture and Environment, in collaboration with the IGAD Foreign Service Institute are convening a high-level training in Nairobi 🇰🇪 for the IGAD Committee of Ambassadors and Parliamentarians from Member States. This training aims to strengthen leadership, oversight, and advocacy for resilient and inclusive #agrifood systems, in line with the CAADP framework, the Malabo Commitments and the 2025 Kampala Declaration.
