The Week at #IGAD: June 7 – 13, 2026 Top stories: ✅ IGAD strengthened its efforts to promote lasting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa by concluding the first coordination workshop for the EU-funded Regional Stabilisation Project in Bishoftu, Ethiopia. The meeting aligned implementing teams around a shared roadmap to enhance preventive diplomacy, peacebuilding, and regional security. ✅ Throughout the week, IGAD expanded regional and international cooperation by deepening partnerships with Sweden, Italy, Germany, and the African Union, while advancing refugee inclusion, digital transformation, youth and women's leadership, trade facilitation, and climate-informed early warning systems to support sustainable development and regional integration.

The discussions underscored the longstanding partnership between #IGAD and #Japan, with the Special Envoy expressing appreciation for Japan’s continued support for regional peacebuilding, development, and stabilisation initiatives. He reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement and accompanying South Sudan in advancing peaceful, inclusive, and credible political processes. The Ambassador emphasised the importance of inclusivity in promoting sustainable peace and democratic governance. Moussa Djama Ali, IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan, met with representatives of the Youth Council of #SouthSudan to discuss the critical role of young people in advancing peacebuilding, nation-building, and inclusive political processes in the country. The discussions underscored the importance of meaningful youth participation in peace and constitution-making processes, electoral engagement, and decision-making. The Special Envoy reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to working closely with young people and supporting initiatives that promote responsible civic engagement, social cohesion, and grassroots peacebuilding. The Youth Council expressed its readiness to collaborate with #IGAD on grassroots interventions and called for greater inclusion of youth in national dialogue processes.
