Today at the Legislative Assembly of BC, I paid tribute to Anthony Michael Maria Remedios, who will always be remembered as a man of faith, devoted husband and father, lawyer, and community champion. Rest well, dear friend.
While nothing is finalized, the Blue Jays’ talks with Max Scherzer have gotten more serious in the last week per industry sources.
Other clubs in mix but Blue Jays now appear to be his most serious pursuer on a possible one-year deal. More @Sportsnet soon.

@ChrisRose Scherzer and Bassett combined for 35 million in 2025. Yesavage and Cease combine for 31million in 2026 (w/ Cease deferrals less than that). Blue Jays starting pitching costs down over last season.
Being away from my family on a birthday is hard but being able to share a day with @SunitaDhirBC Harwinder Sandhu @SChandraHerbert makes the day special.
Happy birthday to my colleagues🎂🎉
Canadian Open 2022, my daughter and I went to watch him. She knew little of golfers. 9th hole, par 5. Hits his drive into the right rough, ball a foot above his feet, an entire forest between him and the green. Kiddo and I agreed that he’d play a layup 8i at best. We’ve been at that spot for 5-6 groups and everyone who ended up there just hacked out. But nooo not Rory … pulls out a 5i, takes a massive swing, grass flying everywhere, ball goes straight at the pin, 15 ft for eagle, and Rory bounces up the fairway. And my daughter instantly became a fan. He brings energy and excitement and he wears his heart on his sleeve. He cares. He can sometimes be a bit of a punk, but when you watch him, you just feel that something exciting can happen any moment.
A question I have been grappling with over the last day or so: What is it, specifically, about Rory that you love? Or conversely, what is it about Rory that you hate?
It is clear that nobody in golf (non-Tiger division) -- I don't think even Spieth -- engenders as much emotion from fans as Rory does. Obviously part of that is that he's great at golf, hits outrageous shots, wins a ton.
But it also seems to go beyond that, and I have always struggled to understand why, what it is about him that elicits very real and strong feelings both for and against him.
I would love to hear from you.
My son who has struggled with addictions for most of his life, was on the streets and died more than once, celebrated two years of being clean and sober last night. Lots of work but happy to have my some back!!
This morning at 6:24 AM, we welcomed our second daughter, Josephine Catherine Ellen Rotchford, into the world! She surprised us by arriving a little earlier than expected, weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces, and she’s already absolutely perfect.
I had an experience this morning that has left me disheartened. This story is true and not embellished.
Early this morning, I pulled in to McDonalds, desperate for something resembling coffee. I saw a man, clearly in medical distress, on the ground in the parking lot (and beside a wheelchair). Beside him was a woman, with a jacket over her pajamas, walking back and forth on the phone. I stopped to see if I could help – she was on the phone with 911 and she was speaking kindly and comfortingly to this man. As I stopped, another man stopped also came over.
Here is the kicker. This lady lived across the street and had seen him out her window. She bundled up and came down to see if he was okay. He was not. With a combination of anger and distress, she told me that not a single person had acknowledged her or the man.
This man was in the parking lot within 15 feet of the drive-thru lane at McDonalds. Multiple people simply sat in their cars while they waited for their English Muffins – no help was rendered – not even a call to emergency services. The employees in the drive thru window could also clearly see this man in distress, and yet no call. I know from the woman that no call had been made as she was currently on the first 911 call recieved.
The North Shore of Vancouver is one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in Canada. There sat the occupants of a Tesla and 2 BMW SVUs.
He was cold and shaking and unable to speak clearly. It looked like he may have fallen from his chair and hit his head on the curb.
Had the man being wearing a suit, I wonder if the reaction would have been different. Perhaps if the kind and caring woman had not been in her pajamas.
The other man and I left when emergency services arrived, yet the woman said she would stay with him. She is my hero. She did what many others should have done.
What is happening to us that anyone could drive by another human being in distress? This is worse than driving by. These people were stopped, waiting for their food; impossible not to have seen. Let’s do better people. I hope this man is okay.
@CraigBaird Thanks for this thread, Craig. Can I also suggest his early days as a baptist preacher were formative too. It allowed him to hone his speaking abilities, taught him how to connect with people, and he embraced a social gospel that proved effective in Sask. politics.
On this day in 1986, Tommy Douglas died.
Considered one of the most important Canadians of the 20th century, he served as premier of Saskatchewan, led the federal NDP, and was instrumental in the creation of Medicare in Canada.
Let's explore his life :)

One moment, they're sitting quietly on my desk in the Chambers; the next, they're a full-out toddler running through the Legislature grounds. Where does the time go? 🥲
The Salvation Army is a light in our community, walking the talk in all they do. Every day, they change lives by helping people move forward. #HandsUp#101Years#Chilliwack Thanks for showing us around!
still hard to believe where life has taken me. Instead of a statistic coming from a small native reserve, I’ve experienced local, regional and provincial issues from a high level. I feel extremely privileged and fortunate to be a small part of history
