RPA OPERATIONAL UPDATE — KIGALI & EASTERN/SOUTH FRONT (MAY 2, 1994): On May 2, RPA forces tightened their approach toward Kigali from multiple directions while FAR attempted rapid reinforcement amid the ongoing Genocide against the Tutsi. 1. FAR Reinforcement — Emergency Recruitment: • FAR initiated a new recruitment drive, with recruits receiving as little as four days of training this reflects increasing pressure on FAR manpower and battlefield sustainability. 2. Eastern/Southern Axis — Continued Advance: • 157th and 101st CMF made further gains in the east/south, advancing closer toward Gatovu–Bugesera this sustained movement increased pressure on FAR positions outside Kigali. 3. Operational Maneuver — Gitarama Axis: • 101 CMF C/O, Col. Charles Muhire (Retired Lieutenant General) was directed to maneuver around Kigali toward Gitarama. This indicated a broader operational design beyond direct frontal assault, aiming to stretch and outflank FAR defenses. 4. Eastern Gate — Kanombe Pressure: • 7th Mobile Force under Col. William BAGIRE reached the doorstep of Kigali (Kanombe axis)and positioned for direct pressure on airport and surrounding military installations. 5. Kigali Axis — Active Combat Zones: • Heavy fighting continued in Remera (Kisimenti)and Kanombe, particularly near the airport. Operational Insight: • May 2 reflects: FAR attempts to rapidly replenish forces under pressure, RPA’s continued multi-directional advance toward Kigali and increasing operational depth through maneuver (Gitarama axis). Core Perspective: • RPA forces advanced on all fronts—tightening the approach to Kigali while outmaneuvering and pressuring a rapidly reinforced but strained opponent. 📰 On this day in the liberation struggle and Campaign Against Genocide ⚔️ 🗓️ On May 2, 1994. 📌 Today's battle was made up of Four major events: 1. #RPA’s 157 and 101 CMF gain in the east/south (inching closer to Gatovu/Bugesera) 2. FAR attempts a new recruitment drive with only four days of training. 3. Col. Charles Muhire now Lt. Gen (Rtd) (101 CMF commander) was commanded to go around Kigali towards Gitarama. 4. Killings carried out in St Famille were incited by Father Wenceslas Munyeshaka and Carried out by the Military army and Interahamwe. 📌 From 2nd May 1994, and following 3 days were somewhat repetitive in the day’s actions. The primary frontlines experienced heavy fighting, with the FAR launching shells and mortars at the RPA position, especially the CND. (You will see the picture below of the damaged CND due to those shells). ✊🏻From its position in Kacyiru, the #RPA attempted to respond to the shelling but often missed the key FAR buildings in the city centre. Akin to the trench warfare of World War One, the frontlines barely changed. If they did, the FAR would counterstrike to reclaim the lost territory. ✍🏻 It is important to stress how territory exchanges were often just a few blocks to even as little as a few buildings. However, fighting increased in #Kisimenti and by the Airport ✈️, which needed to be closed on the evening of 4th May. 💔🕍 A few kilometers from Hotel Des Milles Collines where Rusesabagina were charging Tutsis money to take refuge in that Hotel which was under French intervention ,at St Famille, Father Wenceslas Munyeshaka who is still in France incited the killings of Tutsi who were seeking refugees. The Army & Interahamwe carried the massacres. Src: @JewswithRwanda #Kwibuka32 #CampaignAgainstGenocide

📰 On this day in the liberation struggle and Campaign Against Genocide ⚔️ 🗓️ On May 1, 1994. Today's battle was composed of f Four major events: 1. Full Control of Camp Kami and Rusumo border and gaining more ammunition from enemy 2. Arrival of Alpha,Bravo and 59th CMF in the Kigali central point. 3. The RPA’s 157th and 101st CMFs were making significant gains East and Southern part 4. FAR and Interahamwe were facing major defeat 📝On this day the battlefields of Kigali were set in the days following the arrival of Alpha, Bravo, and the 59th CMF. 🥷Other RPA CMFs, such as the 21st, 101st and 7th came later throughout May and June. 📌The primary frontlines began in eastern Kacyiru, running along RN3 past Parliament and east towards Remera. Additionally, Mt Rebero and Nyanza Hill were under RPA control, while Gisozi had some Bravo CMF soldiers (Remember Bravo was led by Col (Rtd) Twahirwa Dodo). The forces had not secured the hill yet. Beyond the frontline, the RPA attempted to gain control over Mt Kigali and Mt Jali and the southern neighbourhoods of Gikondo, Kicukiro and Kanombe. However, the FAR positioned itself to implement defensive tactics. Anyone within the FAR-controlled territory was at risk of being a victim of the Genocide. The FAR had rid itself the previous month of any moderate Hutu commanders with an increased presence during the massacres. Rwandans were hiding in their homes and other locations, waiting to either die or be saved by the RPA. The humanitarian operations, mainly guerrilla tactics by squads or platoons, saved countless lives while the military operations fought against the FAR to capture more of Kigali. At UNAMIR’s base in Amahoro Stadium, still protected by a platoon of RPA soldiers, a noticeable change is seen. The RPA is increasingly hostile to UNAMIR’s actions, while General Dallaire is still seeking a cease-fire. The only exception was the coordination in saving Rwandans. The RPA continued its operations now with newer weapons and greater ammo captured after the previous successful capture of Camp Kami. Along with the recent capture, troops were heading towards the tactically important Camp Kanombe, which was a few hundred metres from not only the Presidential House but also the plane crash site, which ignited the massacres. ⚔️Much of the fighting on 1st May was at the frontlines by the Meridien Hotel and Remera. 🦠For the FAR, the first of several military recruitment drives began with soldiers receiving, at most, four training days. ✊🏻 The RPA’s 157th and 101st CMFs were making significant gains East and Southern part of #Rwanda, now in @Bugesera and Gako, only km South of the @CityofKigali. Along with the 59th CMF, Lt. General Muhire recalls that the orders were not to go through the capital but to go around it via the east and then go west towards the provincial capital of the genocide regime in Gitarama. The city was captured by 13th June 1994. And in the middle of May blocked the southern exit of Kigali. Closed Kigali -Gitarama road (we will see it in the future). Nevertheless, these divisions in the south of Kigali applied more significant pressure on the FAR, beginning to feel surrounded by the enemy forces. #Kwibuka32 #CampaignAgainstGenocide

Kigali is still the cleanest city in Africa, and it’s not even close. Hosting the FIA, the BAL, and reaching $700M in tourism revenue? This is what happens when you have order and vision. Action over rhetoric, every single time!

RPA OPERATIONAL UPDATE — KIGALI & BUGESERA FRONT (MAY 1, 1994): On May 1, fighting persisted across Kigali while RPA forces expanded operations into the Bugesera axis, opening a new pressure point against FAR positions amid the ongoing Genocide against the Tutsi. 1. Kigali Axis — Sustained Engagements: • Heavy fighting continued around Hôtel Méridien (now Mövenpick) and RPA units secured small but strategic gains in Kacyiru, in the area where the Egyptian Embassy is now located. • These incremental gains continued to tighten pressure within central Kigali sectors. 2. Bugesera Front — Opening a New Axis: • RPA 157th Battalion, under: Lt. Col. Fred IBINGIRA and his Second-in-Command (2IC) Lt. Col. Eric MUROKORE and reinforcements from 101 Mobile Force advanced into Bugesera and engaged FAR OPS Bugesera, which included Bataillon Gako based at Gako Military Barracks. 3. Dual-Axis Maneuver — Tactical Penetration: • RPA forces advanced into Bugesera through two coordinated directions: -via Gashora (from Sake, Kibungo) -via Kanzenze (from Bicumbi, Kigali-Ngali). • These movements allowed RPA units to penetrate FAR defensive lines from multiple angles and advance to Rilima, approximately 7 km from Gako Military Barracks. Operational Insight May 1 reflects: • Continued pressure and incremental gains within Kigali, expansion of operations into Bugesera as a new strategic axis and use of multi-directional maneuver to destabilize FAR positions. Core Perspective: As fighting persisted in Kigali, RPA forces opened and advanced through Bugesera—applying multi-axis pressure to stretch FAR defenses while moving closer to key military positions. Why actually solve the conflict in eastern DRC when it is just easier to sanction people? While I'm no Kabilaist, sanctioning, condemning & etc he (along with Rwanda) doesn't solve the fundamental issues of poor governance, ethnic-based violence & underdevelopment in the DRC...
