M23 rebels, backed by Rwandan elements (RDF), began withdrawing this Wednesday morning from Kitsumbiro in Lubero territory, according to @michombero
This follows earlier withdrawals from Kipese, Lunyasenge, Bukununu, Musiya, and Katondi, where residents reported a rapid departure, burning of positions, and forced civilian involvement in transporting equipment.
Some suspected collaborators also fled, while residents are slowly returning to abandoned areas.
However, no withdrawal has been observed in Mpeti. Local sources confirm that M23 and RDF elements remain present.
So far, no official statement has been issued by Kinshasa, Kigali, or the rebel group.
These movements come days after a U.S.-mediated meeting between the DRC and Rwanda aimed at de-escalation, though no direct link has been confirmed.
