@Judges_beard @JacobBSpeaks You’re trying to take too much care of millionaire players. I’m not saying side with the owners, but sadly even if the owners will make more money their changes are pro small market fans that’s why you only big market fans upset cuz now their teams won’t be able to outbid

@JORGELNODA @JacobBSpeaks Yeah bad contracts happen. It’s part of the game. I get why the players want to keep them cause they stay employed

@Judges_beard @JacobBSpeaks That’s the problem statistically most players will not give you a good 10 years out of 13 Look at Elsburry Cano Rendon Stratsburg Pujols Stanton The list goes on and on and on if I keep going

@JORGELNODA @JacobBSpeaks Also players want stability if theyre signing long term. They dont want to become a journeyman for their last few years.

@Judges_beard @JacobBSpeaks I say they are greed because the 10% of players getting big contracts on long term deals know the last 3-4 years of those contracts will be atrocious or pretty bad Like they just looking to still get paid even when they know they’ll suck, if you an owner I see why you mad

@JORGELNODA @JacobBSpeaks Yeah but they become a free agent at the tail end of their prime. Good for teams, not good for the players. If a team wants to lock up an elite player for a while, it’s fair they sacrifice the risk of paying them for a couple years on their decline for the return of their prime

@Judges_beard @JacobBSpeaks No read again I said after 4 years they could become free agents if their production is elite rather than 6 years of control for the teams Also if a player can become a free agent at age 25-27 and get a 5 years max contract they still become a free agent again in their prime

@JORGELNODA @JacobBSpeaks I mean is that not kinda how it works now? Players that play well get big contracts, players that dont get smaller contracts. Also dont know if calling the players greedy makes much sense when they just dont want their share to be reduced from billionaire owners

@Judges_beard @JacobBSpeaks for your scenario why don’t the player go back to the owners and say okay do a cap but after their first 4 years if they put up certain production and WAR they are up for a certain max contract and if the team says no they can become free agents But instead they just greedy🤣

@JORGELNODA @JacobBSpeaks Yeah i know that. Im talking about players that hit free agency while still on their 20s. Not every player gets extended off their rookie deal so it makes sense not to limit them to a 5/6 year deal.

@Judges_beard @JacobBSpeaks If a players at the age of 25 signs a 700M dollar contract 15 years. His contract runs thru his age 40. 90% of player are horrible or drop their production after age 35 If you red the proposal players can get up to 10 year extensions from their teams before free agency. The MLB proposal to the MLBPA is atrocious You could be a millionaire but you’d still be more likely to become homeless than become a billionaire like these owners, but MLB has done a great job convincing you that players are the problem Nobody wants to go see owners in the suite. We want to see players. Now pay them

@MikeDro_ @cj_kass46 Who cares what the owners make. They’re the ones that made the investment in the business. They are there to make money just like the players

@cj_kass46 @MikeDro_ Yeah and it’s only fair the players get a good chunk of the pie considering they’re the reason the owners make money. But you keep on being a cuck i guess

@JacobBSpeaks Unserious? They’re damn serious about it. The length of contract need to be fixed deferred payments needs to be fixed. The sport needs a salary cap and if not need major reform. The players will fold a lot faster then the owners

As a representative of the Major Gambling Association we will only accept this deal if the MLBPA agrees to refund all lost prop bets dating back to the spring of 2021.
Jeff Passan@JeffPassan

The Major League Baseball Players Association wants to pursue a ban on all MLB-related prop bets, aiming to combat harassment from disgruntled gamblers, a source told ESPN. Story about its proposal Thursday to MLB, free and unlocked, with @DavidPurdum: espn.com/espn/betting/s…

This is a much bigger deal than people think. If MLB somehow gets this to pass, it would be a roadmap for all major sports to follow suit Will be monitoring this very closely

@OnDeckJeff @WizBetz They’re not asking for a ban on betting on baseball, just a ban on MLB advertising player prop bets at the stadium and on broadcast.

@WizBetz It would take government legislation. MLB doesn't own the sports betting and contract buying markets. They could pressure sponsors and partners to ban it, but there are plenty of places with no MLB affiliation.

My personal opinion on where baseball should go: 1. No salary cap (keeping tax thresholds perhaps with exponentially steeper penalties) 2. Contracts to a max of 6 years 3. Contracts can go 8 years if signed during first two years of career (early) 4. Max contract salary of $40M annually 5. Free agency hits after 4 seasons forgoing current arbitration system 6. Salary floor of $160M …any team that fails to accommodate can do so at the expense of their first round selection the following season (will be drawn to a random team that missed postseason) 7. Cannot receive contracts that surpass age-40 season unless signing what will be a max of 2-years signing after 40th birthday Conclusion: I like the idea of a competitive balance but think it’s overrated D-Backs-Rangers played in the 2023 WS and no one watched while folks say LA ruined the league with exploding postseason ratings Baseball and sports in general should be more so about entertainment than fairness
