🚨 Breaking: Shame on Riverstreet Productions Inc. While producing a promo for Disney Channel’s second season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the company replaced the union crew instead of agreeing to a fair contract providing industry-standard wages and benefits. The 25-person IA crew is currently picketing in front of BLT Studios and Soundstages in Hollywood.

JOINT STATEMENT: Production workers at The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) have ratified a wide-ranging union contract covering production staff with IATSE by a near-unanimous margin of 112-3. The agreement, which took effect September 1, covers more than 250 employees who play a vital role in staging The Public’s acclaimed productions.
The newly ratified contract delivers meaningful wage increases and comprehensive benefits, providing long-term stability and protections for the production workforce. The agreement reflects months of constructive negotiations and establishes a foundation of sustainability at one of New York City’s most prominent nonprofit theaters.
This milestone makes The Public Theater one of the first major Off-Broadway institutions to ratify a union agreement with IATSE covering production staff. The contract not only represents a historic accomplishment for workers but also underscores the growing momentum for stronger labor standards across the theater industry.
“The new agreement is a strong step forward for all of us at The Public; it represents the care and hope of the workers and the continued evolution of The Public as a whole,” said Scenic Artist Jacob Claire. “It’s exciting to be represented by IATSE under an agreement that will help many receive insurance, begin prepping for retirement, and have a place where we can be proud to work.”
With this agreement in place, IATSE and The Public Theater move forward in partnership, setting a precedent for equity and ensuring a more sustainable future for the city’s cultural workforce.

IATSE and our fellow Arts, Entertainment, and Media Industries (AEMI) Unions are prepared to fight back against efforts to eliminate the NEA, NEH, and CPB. Nonprofit arts, humanities, and public media enjoy broad, bipartisan public support and sustain thousands of family-supporting union jobs.
Shutting down these institutions would be a radical action that would harm everyday people.

We applaud Senators @MarkWarner & @SenThomTillis for reintroducing the Performing Artist Tax Parity Act (PATPA) in the Senate.
It’s time to update the deduction for work tools and support tax fairness for entertainment's middle class.

BREAKING: Atlantic Theater Company Production Workers Ratify First Union Contract, End Strike
Production crewmembers at Atlantic Theater Company have voted to ratify a tentative agreement reached on March 10th and are set to become among the first not-for-profit theater company producing solely Off-Broadway in history to have a union agreement covering production classifications.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) announced the results of the workers’ vote on the tentative deal Tuesday, with a strong majority voting to accept the terms of the deal. The ratification of the agreement marks the official end of a monthslong strike which began earlier this year.
The new contract contains significant improvements to wages and working conditions. Additionally, workers will gain contributions to health and retirement funds for the first time.
“I feel like we've got a really good foundation to build from, and this is only just the beginning,” said Costume Supervisor Liv Rigdon. “I think this will be a year of learning and we will continue to create a workplace we can all be proud of.”
“The workers whose skills and dedication make Atlantic Theater Company’s productions possible stood together in solidarity on the picket lines and now have a strong union contract to show for it,” said IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb. “This is a victory not just for this crew, but for every off-Broadway behind-the-scenes production worker who seeks dignity in their work.”
"Atlantic would like to thank our colleagues at IATSE for working with us to reach an agreement that is equitable for all parties, especially as the landscape of Off-Broadway theatre and not-for-profits continues to become more uncertain. We could not be happier to get back to producing plays and reinvigorating our season,” said Atlantic Theater Company Artistic Director, Neil Pepe.
Atlantic Theater Company production employees were among the first off-Broadway crews to unionize, voting nearly unanimously in February of 2024 to join the IATSE.
Atlantic Theater Company’s production workers are part of a strengthening movement of off-Broadway workers unionizing for better wages, benefits, safety, and working conditions.
