WWF Magazine- April/May 1987 Hulk Hogan @HulkHogan Andre the Giant @TheGiant46 📷Unknown- possibly Tom Buchanan/ Steve Taylor The cover photo of Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant was the definitive visual for the "Battle of the Titans". It sold the myth of the "undefeated" 500-pound Giant against the "unbeatable" Champion, a storyline that drew a record-shattering 93,173 fans to the Pontiac Silverdome. The promotional shots from this era, including the one used for this cover, were designed to create an "aura of gigantism". This specific imagery of Hogan and Andre facing off became "permanently immortalized within the global collective unconscious," representing the ultimate triumph of a hero against an impossible obstacle.

On this day in history, March 30, 1981, Indiana basketball defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels 63-50 for the program's fourth out of five banners in the 43rd NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in Philadelphia. Coached by Bob Knight, sophomore guard Isiah Thomas won the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award after scoring a game-high 23 points plus five assists and two rebounds. I was LOVING since he stepped foot on Indiana's campus! My Detroit Pistons were having a horrible 1980-81 season and I was so hoping we would draft Isiah. Three months later when the Dallas Mavericks took Depaul's Mark Aquirre with the #1 pick my prayers were answered with the Pistons selecting Isiah #2.
