JUST RELEASED: #BeyondMAGA, our new study of 12,000+ Trump voters, reveals Trump built a coalition, not a cult. Only 38% of his 77 million voters say being 'MAGA' is important to them. We identified 4 distinct types of Trump voters—each with different motivations and worldviews. To understand the coalition Donald Trump assembled, we must see him through the eyes of the 77 million Americans who voted for him: what he represents to them, the role he plays in their lives, and why so many view him as the answer to this period of perceived American decline. In #BeyondMAGA, we revealed that the source of President Trump’s power is his ability to play different roles for supporters across his coalition. Americans do not experience connection and freedom as opposites. Instead, both “Community” and “Freedom” may be something core to the American identity—values that resonate across groups even in polarized times. moreincommon.substack.com/p/what-america…

Representing a fifth of President Trump’s coalition, the Reluctant Right are Trump’s least ideological and least loyal voters. They’re also the most concerned about his immigration policy. Our six Reluctant Right Trump voters are Independents and Republicans alike, hailing from Connecticut to New Mexico. Read what they had to say about immigration: substack.com/home/post/p-18…

With the @DHSgov funding deadline approaching Friday, @jason_mangone joined @NewsNation to discuss a critical tension emerging in the immigration debate. Our January polling shows that 6 in 10 Americans, and 1 in 3 Trump voters, are concerned about ICE's use of excessive force, but they also trust President Trump when it comes to border security. "Most Americans trust President Trump on the border but it's also true that most Americans don't like it when they see fellow citizens being shot in the streets and see militarized takeovers of their towns and cities." Americans want border security AND immigration enforcement that doesn't erode public safety.

Though it is undeniable that something is deeply awry with a nation that can give a popular vote majority to a moral degenerate who did not hide his authoritarian plans, we shouldn’t act as though public opinion hasn’t shifted since the 2024 election. lnk.thebulwark.com/4qgmLyZ

Immigration was the number one, top non-economic issue for Republicans and Independents in 2024 — but it didn't even register in Democrats' top 10 priorities. This massive gap in issue salience is just one finding from #BeyondMAGA, our comprehensive study of the 77 million Americans who voted for President Trump in 2024. A key finding from our study: Trump voters express the same warmth toward legal immigrants (71) as Americans overall (72). The issue for Trump voters isn't immigration itself — it's border control and legal vs. illegal immigration. Read more on our Substack: moreincommon.substack.com/p/beyond-maga-…

The report has some great immigration questions I haven't seen before, showing more room for agreement than usually assumed. 90% of Trump voters agree that "properly controlled immigration can be good for America" and 70% that it should be easier for people to immigrate legally (but harder to come illegally).
