ALT MUSIC MOMENT — JUNE 1986 The Housemartins — London 0 Hull 4 album By the summer of 1986, The Housemartins had captured a raw, energetic beauty—blending jangling guitars and soulful, soaring harmonies into an album that balanced infectious melody with razor-sharp social commentary. 🎧 Turn it up — youtu.be/KfDoPEN7n5k?si… 👇 Deeper Facts 👇 June '86—marking the arrival of their spectacular debut studio album London 0 Hull 4, this wasn't just a release; it was a massive independent breakthrough. It leaped straight into the UK Top 10 albums chart, serving as a brilliant, upbeat yet fiercely political manifesto that resonated deeply with music fans across the country. The band channeled an unforgettable contrast here—Stan Cullimore's crisp, driving acoustic guitar strums and Norman Cook's rhythmic basslines cutting through the jangle, providing the perfect canvas for Paul Heaton’s pristine, melodic vocals. It’s beautifully upbeat on the surface, but underneath it’s completely timeless: a masterclass in classic British indie pop that still sounds exceptionally fresh today. #TheHousemartins #London0Hull4 #IndiePop #PaulHeaton #NormanCook #AltMusic #UKCharts #FORKSTER #AltMusicTrackFeature @TheHousemartins @PaulHeatonSolo @lee0969 @NewWaveAndPunk @Stow6524 @clairywairy88 @Fred_Baliad2 @Wrix2 @TraceMess_469 @Albums200 @FromTheWoods79 @Motobec810 @wthballs

Otis Redding died in a plane crash just three days after recording "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay". Since he had not yet finished the lyrics, he ended up whistling the ending, and this whistling was in the official version. Steve Cropper completed the songwriting after his death. Released as a single in January 1968, it was Otis' first and only single to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent four weeks at the top. The song won two posthumous Grammys and became one of the greatest classics in soul music.

ALT MUSIC MOMENT — JUNE 1985 R.E.M. — Fables of the Reconstruction Released in June 1985, R.E.M.’s third album pulled their college-rock mystique into deeper Southern Gothic territory — shadowy, cryptic and beautifully off-centre. 🎧 Turn it up — youtu.be/wuFId1RYSZE?si… 👇 Deeper Facts “Driver 8” became one of the record’s defining cuts, carrying that strange railway-night atmosphere only early R.E.M. could make feel timeless. #AlternativeMusic #REM #CollegeRock #AltRock #80sMusic #FORKSTER @siouxsieandtheb @NewWaveAndPunk @Stow6524 @clairywairy88 @lee0969 @Fred_Baliad2 @Wrix2 @TraceMess_469 @Albums200 @FromTheWoods79 @Motobec810 @wthballs
