According to TMZ, five contestants from Taylor Frankie Paul’s cancelled season of The Bachelorette are considering legal action against ABC and Warner Bros. Discovery. They reportedly feel they put their lives and jobs on hold for the show, only for it to be scrapped before airing. The men also allegedly believe the production created an unsafe work environment by allowing Taylor to interact with them in intimate settings despite her past alleged violence. The season was cancelled shortly after TMZ released the 2023 video, leading to major financial losses for the network and disrupting plans for the next season of The Bachelor. #SLOMW

Suddenly AI fiction is so easy to detect, but dozens of early readers of Shy Girl gave it 4-5 star reviews, a Big Five editorial team didn't see anything wrong with it, and at least 3 professional, bestselling authors liked it enough to endorse and have their names on the cover!

It's so funny that me telling people "be careful and have full evidence of AI usage before making career-ending accusations" is being read as fearmongering by some. As if pile-ons aren't thrilling pastimes for those who generally don't care about evidence before accusing.

I will say I'm very disappointed about a lot of new authors (especially those who write YA), who scoff at the idea of their books being in libraries. Books are more expensive than ever and they're wondering why a kid won't put down $25+ for your book? Of course they won't read it

Look what I found at Haiti Cultural Exchange today. A book centering the boom of Haitian artists.
Haiti didn’t have an arts facility until 1944, thanks to American watercolorist DeWitt Peters and local artists like Hector Hyppolite. It helped birth the Haitian Arts Movement.

An author going the AI cover route tells me they don't respect other artists enough to pay then for their work and that they don't mind piracy and plagiarism since stealing from other artists learlt isn't a problem.

I think that's a weird assumption to make. Writing and art/design are not the same skillset. That's why in trad publishing they have a team of designers/marketers who know exactly what they're doing. If an author can't afford to pay an artists, ai might be a decision they made to give their book a nice looking cover. I am both a designer and a writer, but I know that this is not the norm for most writers.

@MsWOCReader Just be careful w this one! Many bigger traditional publishing houses do NOT give authors that much say over covers. And like in any business, new writers may not have the same ability to advocate for themselves as those w more experience

In the Reddit post about Shy Girl, the phrase "quiet violence" is argued to be a ChatGPT signature. Ngl this reads like something I would write. I'm glad Shy Girl was pulled (the author admitted that AI was used for editing) but I worry about LLMs' impact on style and voice.
