FYI to all and sundry: there is NO shortcut version to doubles. NONE. This is an abominable offense against the people of Trinidad and Tobago and I will be reporting this crime to the CARICOM Council for National Security and Law Enforcement (CONSLE), United Nations and INTERPOL.
The Washington Post@washingtonpost

Trinidadian doubles — curried chickpeas wrapped in two lightly fried flatbreads called bara — is a fragrant street food shaped by Trinidad’s Indian heritage. This shortcut version uses canned chickpeas and store-bought flatbreads. wapo.st/4uaDZR0

Preorder Mermaid Season for your little sister/cousin/niece/goddaughter, whoever ! Preferably from a Black owned bookstore if you can. Which you can easily do via bookshop down below. Or library request. It's still Haitian Heritage Month! And Mer-May! bookshop.org/a/111697/97813…

@MsWOCReader If you haven't read Monday's Not Coming by Tiffany Jackson, can't recommend it highly enough. If you like cop books, Tracy Clark's newest is out! Want something light, fun & will make you hungry just by reading? Mia Manansala! Want to spend time with aunties? Sonya Lalli.

@MsGo @MsWOCReader He's not the first Black person to produce a white film or show. If this was actually a means of success to make Black art in the future, we'd see more. Yet here we are with little to nothing in speculative fiction. When is it enough? At this point you're begging white people

Not to mention they insist BIPOC reviewers sign up for these programs to get books and then don't feature BIPOC books consistently in these programs. But then don't want you to request them outside of their Google forms.

One thing I haven't seen anyone talk about is how these publishers just quietly eliminate influencer programs. Harper Audio got rid of theirs after the strike and Hachette Audio went ghost on theirs a few months ago after some firings.

@goldskinned__ Vague descriptions of them being non white in the book is not the same as explicitly stating describing them as Black.

@MsWOCReader Rebecca herself has stated multiple times that Xaden (and his cousin and mother) are not white. Rhi and the professor are described with dark brown skin and braids. It’s super clear everyone from those islands aren’t white. Did you even read the books?

Many of the characters are explicitly described as POC or Black. That is why we’re asking. What’s not clicking?

@Charl3sZ Michael is not the one overseeing day to day operations. A white woman is at the helm.

@MsWOCReader Well a Black exec producer on a show is more likely than a white one to make sure Black representation happens. Particularly since Amazon has announced 10 new shows and *every* body on those shows is white. Because they're not even bothering to hire biracial tokens anymore.

@fwitter2020 @DayeZenny Michael will not be overseeing the day to day. The woman who runs his production company is white.

@MsWOCReader @DayeZenny Michael’s company is producing it. Black actors come out complaining how it’s a terrible experience when it’s a majority or white owned company. If we ran from racism in every job or field as black people we wouldn’t have nowhere to go.
