How do people in the suburbs genuinely look forward to Friday night on the couch, Saturday morning at Costco, and call that a weekend? Like you really moved out of the city just to LARP as your parents at 34?

@verynormalnyguy @gravyglove @MurrayHillGuy1 We walk to restaurants, parks, coffee shop, Amphitheatre for summer programs… lots of suburban developments setup this way. Ranked #1 suburb in America for multiple years in the past decade. One cool perk too is no human shit or needles on the sidewalk

@theobrosevelt @careeningthru @MurrayHillGuy1 Once you have kids you’ll realize stumbling out anywhere doesn’t exist. It’s an hour to get out of the house. Driving 10-15 min is not consequential when you are gaining a way better family lifestyle outside of the city

@careeningthru @MusingwithADHD @MurrayHillGuy1 It’s one thing to get ready and plan to go to these places and drive there. It’s another thing to stumble out of your house and already be there. This isn’t some sort of revelation that urban environments have more third spaces and third space utilization.

@Bodebil60 @MurrayHillGuy1 Sans kids no reason not to live in city. I did from age 18 to 35. But I wouldn’t glorify no spouse and no aspirations for a family in your mid 30s. Waiting until 40 for all of that is a fools game if you think it’s going to be easy to have kids.

@MusingwithADHD @MurrayHillGuy1 It's just something to do honestly. There are no bonfires and pick up truck conventions in the woods for city folks so bars are how they hang with friends.

@AbbyJo551283 @MiamiDon223 @MurrayHillGuy1 I think we need to differentiate people with 2 or more kids. You can totally micro manage city life with 1 kid. I did it. Exponentially harder with multiple or 3 with 1 on the way on my case.

@MarcDiamond14 @MurrayHillGuy1 Why would I be 39 and drinking most nights? My first was born at 32 and I have more respect for myself and family than that. Brought little joy going out once I hit 30. You gotta just grow up and be a man. Serve a greater purpose than doing shit for the gram.

@AbstractEntityZ @RaiderTy92 @MurrayHillGuy1 Ah yes. That’s the reason the city subsidizes a new football stadium to overcrowd the city on Sundays. It’s because the county 30 minutes away really needed it.

@AbstractEntityZ @RaiderTy92 @MurrayHillGuy1 You are confused. The city wants the $ from the suburbs and builds high density parking garages. No one is demanding that. City is demanding our $ as the money from those in the city limits is not enough to support the economy.

@BlairBlaire2 @AbstractEntityZ @MurrayHillGuy1 It’s important for kids to grow up with used needles on the sidewalk in front of their house though. You are missing out on an important foundation in their upbringing.

Statistics on one element of what I discussed? There’s a lot more kids riding bikes in the suburbs you’d be crazy to let your kids do that in the city. Of course there will be more hit by car incidents. Look at violent crime per capita. Drugged out Homeless per capita. It’s all city focused.

@AbstractEntityZ @MurrayHillGuy1 I’ve been in the burbs 4 years now vs 4 years in city with kids. 0 crackheads on my porch, 0 car break ins, 0 near miss getting ran over. And prior to kids I was robbed at gun point a block from my house. Also yet to happen. You aren’t convincing anyone.

@AbstractEntityZ @MurrayHillGuy1 “the city is safe just need to keep your wits about you” is cool and all when it’s just me and my wife. What kind of wits are we expecting in a 5 year old, 10 year old? Just not a place to have a carefree childhood.

City leadership ruined that dream. The crackhead who came up on my front porch with my 2 young daughters sitting with me demanding I go inside and get him a Coke was the 1st strike. 2nd strike was walking my daughter pre-k and a car nearly running us over at the cross walk. Didn’t wait for a 3rd. Too many people completely devoid of morals in the city and no leadership to rid the city of them.
